You can read more about Josie here in Introducing Mrs. Longears. I convinced my mom to rescue her from slaughter because she's a Curly mule, which is both rare and potentially useful.
We suspect she was used by the Amish before her life at the auction house. The Amish use teams of 6-8 mules to pull farm equipment. See photo here. That heavy collar on their necks...I would guess she wore an ill-fitting one pretty often to have a white mane like that.
Oh she is a cutie! I can't wait to see how things develop with her. They're such smart animals. I'm sure she'll quickly figure out that you guys are a good deal.
Oh, poor Sage, does he not like losing his position as only curly animal?
I guess he's starting to see it as a herd with some mares and a stallion, and as the stallion in question he has to do his correct stallionly duty and bite them as much as possible. He's looking good in those pictures. They all are.
You know, the moment everything changed was when I took him out on that trail ride on the roads, and we got a certain distance away and Josie started calling for him. And he puffed right up and got all pleased with himself and you could see the wheels turning in his head, and him realizing this means he now has two women. I do think he sees his role changing in the herd.
Sage and Thea are gorgeous. I think Josie however, is really lovely. She is going to be such an adventure for you. You'll have to post on all the little differences between horse ownership and well, mule ownership. I'm intrigued.

Why does Ms Mule have scar tissue? I don't know if I've read her story in here yet.
