Bold the books that you've read, underline the ones that you've seen the film version. Italicize if you've started but not finished ( Read more... )

well, the first 200 were--- lost the desire to read even the titles after that. simply amazing; absolute shit. i'm ashamed of how many of them i've read.

I love words, any words! Just give me a book, and if I can read the first 15 pages then I will always finish it. A minor complusion, even if the book sucks, I feel like a failure if I don't finish one. So recommend many and I will pick them up! At the moment I am in a rut anyways, read far to much vonngut and robins to want to read them anymore, and now I just don't know what I feel like reading. Oh and sorry I was not at the slam, damn flu. Next time though, I will be.

eh, you didn't miss much.
uhm--- i dunno if you can find the books i'd recommend. maybe. if you can't, i'll loan'em to you. here:
Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice by James Branch Cabell - the only fantasy book i've ever enjoyed... third favorite book of all time.
In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan - an oregon native; uses words beyond well.
Ask The Dust by John Fante - the most beautiful book ever.
i have more - many, many more that are worth reading... if you need more, or many, many more - ask.

Okay.
Jurgen: read it last year and loved it.
In Watermelon Sugar: read it so many times, you should see my copy.
Ask The Dust: Have not read it, so I will indeed look into this one!
So I guess my mission for tomorrow is to find this book, can't wait! Thanks much.

Cabell (author of Jurgen) wrote a better book in that same series called: FIGURES OF EARTH: A Comedy of Appearances... it was Mark Twain's favorite book.
so then - how about Leonard Cohen's BEAUTIFUL LOSERS?
or Knut Hamsun's HUNGER?

Yes..i have read tropic of cancer, barrowed it from loreli actually.
I am going tomorrow to find Ask the Dust. My only day off in a 13 day stretch..I like Leonard Cohen quite a bit. Never heard of Knut Hamsun.
I will check out the Figures of Earth though.I am going on a vacation and that calls for about 7 books, considering I read a book a day pretty much when there is nothing else to do. Yup, there is nothing better then settleing down to a nice book, on the beach with a beer..Can't wait!
