FEZZZZZZZZZU3

So like, I went to the Comic & Games Expo thing last weekend and found out about Fantasy Earth: Zero (FEZ), an MMORPG from Squenix that recently came out in HK (on 'public beta', which means it's time to rake in the $$$). The guys there were distributing free installation CDs, and the game looks kinda cool and fun at the same time. Basically, from what I read, think of a huuuuuuge PvP arena where you represent your country and such, and if you win you gain the other country's land (I think).

But FEZ refused to work for me, just when I downloaded the installer (I didn't get the CD) and installed the game into my computer. The thing simply...reboots my computer when it starts running. I tried everything possible - run as admin, AppLocale, Windows XP Compatibility mode, reducing to a bare minimum on graphics and whatnot, installing in another partition, even getting a Taiwan version (which does better, it simply crashes instead of reboots my computer). I tried every solution that I could find under the internets but to no avail.

So I give up. There goes an MMORPG that I actually genuinely wanted to give a try but it doesn't like my computer apparently.

On another note, my dad bought a Samsung YP-U3 for my mom as she is going to stay for about a week or two in the hospital (surgery stuff). It's a 2GB player that's about as big as a USB finger disk, plus radio function.

So first, it has a program that you need installed to move stuff into the U3. That's ok and I'm fine with it, since Apple has iTunes with their iPod. But the problem is that it wanted me to update (which I did), and suddenly the original program, the Samsung Media Studio, became EmoDio and for whatever reason, it can't find the U3 even though Vista recognizes it. And when I wanted to uninstall it, Samsung was so nice that during the update process they forgot to at least put an uninstaller along with the freaking program. Great stuff.

So after some jumbling, EmoDio is gone and the Media Studio thing is back again (it occupies an icon in my system tray which I find slightly annoying and can't be avoided somehow). So all is fine and dandy with moving stuff into that U3 stick thingy. The only gripe is that they somehow don't make a playlist in the U3 when you rip CDs, but said playlist can be automatically generated in your computer. So I had to move the playlist from my computer to the U3 player. Not a big problem for me though.

So next is the player, which, aside from a few buttons, is totally touch-sensitive. Since it's so small, said buttons are really close to each other. Which kinda sucks because my parents aren't that sensitive with touch sensitive buttons. And the return 'button' (which is also touch-sensitive) is also reallllly close to the other touch buttons. And based on which screen you're on, the buttons function differently, on the menus you move up and down with the +/- buttons, and move left/right (directory-wise) with the back/forward buttons. Obviously they function differently when you're in the 'now playing screen,' but during your menu adventures you can't really get to adjust your player's volume or skip to the next song.

So. If you know what I was writing about, I'm not halfway satisfied with the Samsung YP-U3 player. It looks nice, there's multiple colors and that's it. The fact that my dad bought it instead of having me buy it as originally intended made it a more...interesting decision (the good thing is that now I can blame him for choosing an mp3 player that is totally against older people). I wish my old iPod still got good batteries, since that's what my mom actually preferred having instead of this. Now I don't know how my mom can use this new mp3 player. Hopefully it won't take me an hour just to teach her how to choose a song and play it.
