The scar was still spectacular, red and healing. It felt like the skin wasn’t really even a part of him any more, and Don found himself constantly running his fingers over it just to make sure the nerves were still sparking. He stood in the low light, looking at his body in the mirror, once amazingly free of the truly bad scars. Sure he had his share of thin, pale, long-ago healed scars. And there was that chunky scar along the top of his arm from when he’d been shot by one of the Charm School Boys. But this. It felt like it was always going to be like this.
Charlie stirred, reaching over and finding the bed next to him empty. He lifted his head to find Don in front of the mirror again. Shifting, he got out of bed and walked up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and propping his chin on a shoulder.
"Hey, buddy," Don murmured. "Did I wake you?"
"Not as such. I missed your snoring," Charlie said, smiling.
Don laughed. "Oh, I'm the one who snores?" He turned and took Charlie in his arms, kissing him softly.
Charlie stroked his hands along Don’s chest, his sensitive fingertips just tracing the top of the scar. Don flinched, but Charlie persisted, stroking over the scar as he kissed him more forcefully, more passionately.
"Charlie..."
"Come back to bed, Don. This... it doesn't change the way I see you. It doesn't change how beautiful or strong or sexy you are. I need you next to me. Please." Charlie tugged gently on his arm, pulling him under the covers and spooning up against his back. He covered the scar with his hand. Don smiled, covering Charlie's hand with his as he drifted off to sleep.
