Character Number: first!

Name: Jalyt Kethyr

Source: Runescape

Appearance: Jalyt is a young woman of twenty-one with amber eyes and wavy blonde hair that mostly stays in place behind her head except for two locks of hair that frame her face. Her hair reaches her shoulders, and can reach her waist if she lets it grow out, but she keeps it cut for convenience’s sake.

She is of average height and well-muscled, but wiry. She usually wears clothes of a sturdy, deep blue fabric that has several leather straps and buckles for carrying weapons, tools, and supplies.

On the back of her neck, shoulder blades, and right above her hips are three sets of scars. They are from the Slug Queen’s tentacles, and although they are usually hidden, she is very self-conscious about them, as they are souvenirs of when she was possessed.

Personality: At the base of Jalyt’s personality is a lot of good intentions and enthusiasm, and despite her experiences those are still a big part of who she is. She enjoys helping people, although ungrateful, manipulative, and/or douchey people have somewhat soured that particular joy. She is somewhat gullible, although being duped several times has taught her the valuable life skill of not taking everything at face value. …not that she always thinks to use it…

After spending three years fending for herself in a world filled to the brim with various creatures that think she’s tasty, she’s had to do a lot of growing up, but…lapsing into immaturity happens far more often than she would like to admit. Childish taunts and arguments are as likely to come out of her mouth as reasonable discussion. And even when being mature, she can be very blunt.

One of Jalyt’s greatest joys in life is working. Smithing, cooking, construction, exploring dungeons…you name it, she’s probably done it and loved it. She is constantly seeking out new techniques and skills and would probably just die if she was deprived of the ability to create anything.

While she likes peace and avoiding conflict, she also enjoys the rush of a good brawl, and a chance to vent her many frustrations on an opponent is incredibly satisfying. And any fighting helps her improve her skills, so that’s a plus, too!

Because she doesn’t know where she came from before she turned eighteen, Jalyt will have periods where she will actually not be working on something. During those times, she keeps to herself and stews over who she is and where she’s going in her life. She eventually comes out of these funks, usually with renewed determination to become the best at ALL THE SKILLS. Even if she has no past and no family, she’ll have that.

Jalyt is terrified of sea slugs and penguins. (It’s a long story…) And she hates it when people make you traipse halfway across the world and almost get killed, then berate you for taking too long.

And finally, she has made a hobby of randomly walking up to people and starting conversations for no reason other than to talk.

History: When Jalyt was eighteen years old, she found herself in the small town of Lumbridge, and all she could think about was how much she wanted to go out and become the best adventurer Gielnor had ever seen. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that she realized that before Lumbridge…she doesn’t remember anything. She will have moments when she remembers a memorable parental quote, or how much she hated the piano lessons her mother forced her to take, but…that’s all. She isn’t even sure if Jalyt Kethyr is the name she was born with, or if she came up with it.

Asking around in Lumbridge turned up no leads, or even the possibility of a lead, so Jalyt returned to her adventuring. She picked up trades as she traveled, and took any quests people had to offer. At first the chance to help attracted her, but the ungratefulness of a lot of her employers made her soon start seeking out payment more often.

She was an important part of several important events, including, but not limited to: rediscovering how to create rune stones, creating a homunculus, opening a path to the Elven lands, the assassination of King Tyras (who turned out to have been on her side), forging peace between several sets of warring nations, curing the Miscellanean King of a yeti curse, the crowning of the first dwarven king in centuries, preventing hostile invasion from other planes, curing the Fairy Queen, and protecting the city of Varrock from a zombie invasion.
(I can’t list out her entire history, that’s over a hundred quests’ worth of storyline.)

It has been three years since she first found herself in Lumbridge, and she now has a house of her own in Yanille, as well as the friendship of a clan. She contributes to the construction of the clan’s floating fortress, but doesn’t actually interact socially with them very much. A month ago, she finished eliminating the threat of mind-controlling sea slugs, but it has taken its toll on her emotionally. She was temporarily possessed by the slugs’ queen, and had to watch a little girl who had known nothing but the Slug Queen’s possession her whole life die in her arms.

When she is brought to Demeleier, she was in the middle of reorganizing her possessions before searching for another quest.

Specific Abilities: The “skill” that is responsible for Jalyt’s prowess at all her trades is pretty much the ability to improve her abilities by practicing them. However, the more skilled she becomes, the more she must practice to improve, so perfection will always elude her. Thanks to this practice she is a fair hand at a wide array of practical skills that range from potion-making, weaponsmithing, goldsmithing, and fishing. She is particularly fond of cooking and gardening.

Jalyt knows several elemental battle spells and everyday mundane utility spells, but they require magically imbued rune stones to cast, so unless she learns other forms of magic, she can’t cast any magic without runes. She is able to imbue runes herself, but only if she has pure essence to imbue and a runecrafting altar to work at.

Her means of recovering from injuries is rather unique: she eats. The higher quality the food, the more she recovers. This works because she has natural healing abilities, supported by an unnaturally high metabolism. Eating food provides the immediate energy needed to repair injuries, but she also need to eat a lot in order to function. If she goes without food for too long, her body will not repair itself in any way and she will pass out.

Not so much an ability and more of an extremely useful tool, Jalyt’s hip pouch has at times almost infinite storage space. Despite being the size of a more normal human’s wallet, Jalyt can stuff anything from seeds to crossbows into it. She once put a girl in a barrel in there. The average storage capacity is 28 items, but things like seeds and coins compact more easily and can be carried in larger amounts.

In Gielnor, those who have gained favor with the gods can be spared death. Before their body and soul can part ways, they are borne away and revived in the god’s city of choice. This does nothing to ease the pain of death, and any possessions carried at the time are lost. Word has it that those who risk their lives too freely lose this boon and shuffle off their mortal coil like any other man. Jalyt has yet to reach this point. She can still use blessings from her gods for a few minutes, but after that she has to find an altar to one of them and pray before she can use their favor like that again. The blessings have effects ranging from increased battle or magic prowess, to complete protection from either missiles, magic, or melee weaponry.

Jalyt is well-learned in several battle disciplines and is strong enough to lift a stone troll three times her size above her head and hold him there.

Jalyt has learned to swim through necessity, but just enough to keep from drowning. It’s one of the few things she doesn’t practice. The same goes with piloting boats.

Through her interactions with the gnomes of her world, Jalyt has begun learning how to be a tree whisperer and commune with nature. At the moment she is only able to communicate with plants that can speak in some form, but she can tell if a tree is inhabited by a dryad or other fae/spirit.

She can craft armor, jewelry, glass items, and weave several items as well. However, she has no experience making everyday clothing and would probably have what looks like potato sacks as a finished product.

Jalyt has never built a house, but she has built several small shelters and hundreds of pieces of furniture from many types of wood.

She gardens regularly and is able to grow most vegetables, herbs, flowers, and trees. Plants grow slightly faster under her care.

She can smelt and craft all but the most difficult of metals (in her world, that is runite). She is also skilled at extracting ores from rock. And due to an odd bit of luck, she sometimes finds gems while doing so.

She is as agile as a cat on a hot tin roof, climbs like a mountain goat, and can wriggle through most small spaces.

She is knowledgeable about herbs and their properties and knows several potion recipes that have various effects. Some increase battle stats, while other increase skill temporarily, and other cure disease or poisoning.

She excels at tracking, hunting, trapping, and fishing, and can clean her catches as well as cook them. She is also an accomplished baker and brewer.

She’s a lumberjack and she’s okay. Woodcuting is one of her best skills, and she is very talented at lighting things on fire. She can also use the wood she collects to fashion arrows and bows.

She is able to summon familiars in Gielnor, but it requires several components and a summoning obelisk, so she does not practice it often and can’t use it in Demeleier.

One of her more unsavory skills is thieving. Almost all locks, pockets, and booby-trapped buildings are not safe from her.

Inventory: 100 air runes, her Dwarven Army Axe (a swiss army knife of sorts, it works as a pickaxe, hatchet, and mace, and the handle contains a chisel, needle, and tinderbox), her Abyssal Whip (which she can sometimes (twice every thirty minutes) use to drain energy from her opponent, although she doesn’t absorb that energy), 5 harralander herb seeds, and a lock pick.

Additional Information: Jalyt is a cross between an original character and an existing character, because although I play the game, a lot of her behavior and actions are scripted. What I’ve done is taken that framework and built off of it. :3

Sample Post: …well. This was new. Not the suddenly being teleported, oh no. That was downright normal. It was the deafening silence that was becoming somewhat unnerving. There wasn’t a soul in sight. No one asking for her help - or demanding it, even - not even a lone miner lingering on the mountain slopes. Just mountains rising behind her, a valley below her, and a temple’s steps beneath her.

At least the temple was a start. With steps that sounded far too loud in the silence, she entered what seemed oddly nondescript for a place of worship. A second glance showed what seemed to be hundreds of statuettes and tiny shrines around the perimeter, and when she leaned in for a closer look at the nearest few…

…the nondescript décor suddenly made sense.

For here was a shrine bearing the star of Saradomin, side-by-side with another bearing Zamorak’s horned sigil. Guthix…Armadyl…Bandos…even Zaros’ symbol held vigil over their own small altar scattered with unlit candles.

It was as if someone had taken Jalyt’s mindset and given it physical form. Never had she seen more than one god worshipped anywhere but her own home. What sort of land had she found herself in?

Sample Journal Post : [How I technology? First there is a brief shot of someone blonde fiddling with her communicator, then text:]

[The feed then shuts off temporarily, switches to audio:]

Damn it, how does this work?

[And finally switches to video, with a young woman grinning at the screen.]

A-ha!

[She clears her throat and then cheerily addresses whoever may be watching.]

So, I’ve worn lots of strange headgear in my life, but usually I’m the one to put it there! Or I’m at least given a job before it’s shoved on me. Anyone feel like explaining? [She seems more concerned about her new crown than about suddenly being somewhere new. That would be because she’s used to suddenly being teleported places.]

Edit: NEW Sample Journal Post Thunk. Thunk.

She couldn’t save Lucy.

Thunk. Tink. Thunk.

She couldn’t save Larry.

Crack! Rocks tumble, revealing more ore. Thunk. Thunk.

Couldn’t keep the Red Axe at bay without lying to every dwarf in Keldagrim and binding Veldaban to a kingship he never wanted.

Tink. Oh. A ruby. …meh. Thunk.

Couldn’t even remember her own name.

Thunk. Thu-

Her pick changes trajectory to sail across the cave and clatter to the floor. The noise isn’t as satisfying at she’d thought it’d be, and kicking the wall only hurts her toes.

Jalyt slumps to the floor and toys idly with the ruby. Normally she’d cheer and stuff it in her bag, but at the moment it was just where she could see her reflection dyed red.

She thought she’d gotten past this last time.

She’d solved plenty of mysteries, saved hundreds of lives, stopped a god’s avatar, even! But right now it didn’t seem like enough.

Maybe if she had parents to turn to. Or even a best friend. She wished she could call Zanik that, but…it was too confusing. And Juna, oh Juna… Jalyt thought she’d finally found someone to look up to. But no, even Guthix’s snake was more concerned with destiny than friendship.

Her sigh echoes off the cave walls, a reminder of just how alone she was in the empty tunnel.

…Sleep was probably best for now. Sleep without dreams. Without slugs crawling through her brain or flippers dripping in blood. Without Dorgesh-Kaan in rubble. Maybe then she’d feel like herself (hah) again.
