I need a geek

Are the batteries on your two laptops interchangeable? If so, you could just move the battery (or external/spare battery) to the old lappy long enough to get the pix off.

Or, is the entire cord missing, if not, which parts? It may be possible to get a replacement cord/part from Radio Shack (not the iGo, though, that's too pricey for this job).

They're different brands... old laptop = compaq, new one = toshiba. So, I have no clue whether or not they are compatible. The whole cord is gone, and it's been so long since I used it I have no clue where it might be or what might have happened to it. I thought about using the cord for my current laptop to try to charge the old one, but Brian thought that might be a bad idea....

as you can see, this kind of stuff is beyond my ability for problem-solving =(

Try looking up the power input spec for your old laptop, and compare to the spec for your current lappy. If they are the same, the cord will work.

Thanks, Gregg! I'm going to try to get a new power cord tonight for the old laptop, and if that doesn't work I'll take it to Fry's on Monday to see what that can do =) I figured there was some way to remove the hard drive and get the info off it, I just had no idea how.
