Name That Tune

May 06, 2004 12:08

Second of three posts for today, and possibly the lightest and fluffiest. (If you don't care for more serious topics, skip my first one, below.) Warning: memeage, music.

You know the drill by now. The first 20 non-instrumentals from a random playlist I made in iTunes. Brief snippet of lyrics from each. Name the tunes, and win absolutely nothing. Void where prohibited. )

First reply, first hit. (For extra credit, meaning absolutely nothing, how many others have been discovered since?)

The exact name is... A Christmas Carol, by Tom Lehrer. So you're exactly right regardless. ;-) (Especially amusing because the other one is officially titled The Weird Al Show Theme. So you got the two with the most descriptive, generic names, I do believe.)

Correct indeed. 'Did you say 'orfen' as in frequently, or 'orphan,' a child who has lost his parents?'

#4 is a Suzanne Vega song, but I don't remember the title.

#7 is Mono Puff, "Nixon's the One"

#15 is They Might Be Giants, "Someone Keeps Moving My Chair".

All three, you are responsible for fostering my taste for.

The Vega is Blood Sings. 'When blood sees blood of its own, it sings to see itself again...'

And there's some more recent work by TMBG on there, too...

#13: The Sts. John, "Spiralling Shape" (which, I feel I must admit, I only recognize because z_gryphon has had it performed in one UF fic and had characters quote it in another).
