I had an awesome day with the electron microscope today...I took some really kickass pictures of stuff, so I want to share (naturally) because I like to think that everyone wants to see cool pictures of stuff I looked at. Mhmm.

The butterfly wing is simply amazing.

Indeed, I was super happy about the quality of the focus on that one...it's very hard to get butterfly wings in focus like that because the electrons usually cause the little flaps to move around when you move in to get a closer look so it's hard to get a good picture when things are moving like that (similar to regular cameras in that respect). There's also an issue of the electrons sort of vaporizing gentle tissues, especially when the beam gets ultra-concentrated (i.e. at really high magnification). Perhaps next time I'll post a picture of what it looks like from further away.

Anywho, I'm way too excited about crap like this ;-)
