Get him a book. Not a guide book, but something that means something to you, and you think he would like. Preferably fiction. I find that with a nice inscription it is a very thoughtful gift. Especially if he likes to read.

sounds like a good weekend.

i'm really glad you decided what you wanted and are going for it. you already know this, but you'll be glad in the end. you're not an ass. i'm pretty sure i would have gotten discouraged and i know i would have been confused. cause we're human. let me know if you need anything in the meantime, seeing as augie is a lot more accessible to me than it is to you...

hmm maybe get him something to encourage the whole art teacher success thing? cause well i know you're excited for him and i am too! but i don't know ryan well enough to know if he'd really appreciate a gift like that or think it was lame. the only present i ever heard him talk about was that expensive bottle of alcohol his parents bought him...

...maybe if neither of you really want anything for christmas you could plan a really cool date night together. like one of you can plan one thing and pay for it and the other can plan the other thing. but then there's always that akwardness of is he going to get you a gift anyway... i dunno, shooooooooot.
