Why same sex marriage matters

It's about giving gay people the legal power to make the same major life choices - for better or for worse - as straight people. I've never quite understood exactly what about that is supposed to be so difficult to understand. :-/

That article, and a similar one which was also printed in the Big Issue, annoyed the ever-living fuck out of me.
Who the fuck is Helen Razer to tell people - who are being denied the basic fucking right to declare their commitment to the people they love - what they should want?

Yeah, there's a whole "People who have things in common with me must have *everything* in common with me and think what I think and want what I want" thing going on there. It's really a bit shit.
