I hated Catcher in the Rye. Everyone I know loved it, but I just found Holden completely unlikeable as the chief protagonist. And Catch-22 is a heavy read that I have never managed to get all the way through, but I have been told it's worth it so I might have to give it another go.
And only 8/10 for Pride & Prejudice..? Le gasp!
This is a good idea- one that I might have to steal. I have barely read anything in such a long time, it's disgraceful.
Pride & Prejudice was a good read but the language made my brain hurt after a while. I could only read a few chapters at a time before my brain melted.
I've heard loads of mixed comments about Catcher in the Rye. Most people said it was pretty bad but hey.. They said that about Lolita.
I liked The Catcher In The Rye - it's a different perspective on this world. It's also the type of book that makes me laugh, surprisingly, he's incredibly perceptive about people.
two necessary franco-reads in english are 'the sun also rises,' by hemingway as i am still in love with lady brent ashley and i find a romance with a literary character to be all but fulfilling. the other is, if you like scotty fitzgerald, 'tender is the night' which is far more southern than paris but the côte d'azur has so much to give, like a juicy watermelon
