I had been really looking forward to this second episode featuring Sharon Raydor, hoping that there might be some development, either for her character, or for Brenda's reactions towards her. The preview looked promising, but the episode didn't really meet my expectations. I have a feeling, if it wasn't for Mary's wonderful way to play this character, I would probably be asking myself what the point of her character is. She had quite a lot of screentime, but dialogue, or rather anything of substance to say? Not so much. Except for the usual 'I'm not your enemy/This unit is here for a reason' thing at the end that was to be expected.

I assumed this second Sharon Raydor appearance would actually teach Brenda something about herself - resulting in Raydor being right, or somewhat right in the end, and Brenda having to deal with that. Raydor being the catalyst for some Brenda character development. But apparently, Brenda can do no wrong. And apparently, Raydor only served as her audience.

Thus, there was no suspense at all. No "oh!" moment. No nothing, really. I'm not even sure what the point of writing her into this episode was, aside from a couple of amusing little moments. My favorite:
Raydor, after being told, to personally carry the evidences down to major crimes: "Okay. Here is your evidence." - "Is that everything?" - "Oh Gosh, I hope so!"

I also enjoyed the scene when she informed the tattoo guy about his rights. Totally cool and factual. I was hoping she would surprise Brenda and her team then by showing that she is quite capable of getting some information, but nothing. Again.

All in all, Mary's very present and calm performance was what made this episode worth the watch. In contrast to Brenda, I might add. I didn't exactly get some of the Brenda dislike after last episode, I didn't mind her then, but this time around she was driving me insane. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to watch this show regularly, because that character is fluttering all around and interfering with my zen. How that kind of person has control over a horde of (male) cops is beyond me.

Also, the general ignorance towards one of the criminals trying to kill the other in the car, rubbed me the wrong way. As did Brenda's reluctance of telling the young boy's mother that her son was dead in order to get some info first. On this note: Go, Raydor.

P.S.: Loved seeing Mary's face with her hair pulled back. I don't know why, probably because you get a more intense look at what really matters then and are not being distracted by that beautiful mane of hers. ;)
