You know, when a long time passes between chapters of a wip, sometimes I have to go back to pick up the thread. But it never happens with 4 Corners... It stays vivid through the weeks. Thank you!
The plot is clockwork in its ticking precision.
The writing is different, like concrete rubble with sparse, glimmering shards of glass which I recognise within my own flesh and bone:

feeling the shape of a truth through the fog
if he keeps moving, he will not seize up
of course they would join hands and leave him
John would not let him die when his moment came, and this is an after-time
He is impersonating himself
he tries to feel, and there is nothing
John did not let him die properly. Therefore, this.
Sherlock, of course, very possibly equates rest with death at the moment

...and then he steps out of the car, out of moving on, out of the movement of life, *out*.
Next Sunday seems very far away.

Yes, this is the least stylistically pretty chapter. It's rammed with action and exposition. I tried to write it as taut as possible.

I hadn't thought through the implications of Sherlock stepping out of the car, but I think you've put your finger on what he's doing. It's a last-ditch attempt to step out of his own narrative (which feels unbearable to him). John wouldn't let him step out of the window in Ch5, but something was going to break; Sherlock endured until he'd done what was necessary, and now it does break.
