About Me: This may be a bit long and too much but you may as well have some idea of what you are getting into from the beginning. And it is really only a beginning of a description as there is so much more that needs to be experienced that can not be explained. Looks can be deceiving.
I was born in Seattle, WA but moved to CA when I was four. Outside of a couple years in Michigan and one in Hawaii, I have pretty much been living in the South Bay Area of Northern California until I moved to New York 8 years ago. Being a fairly recent transplant (in reference to how long I have lived) to the East Coast and having grown up in the West, there are many things that just plain don’t make sense to me out here. Some things are more antiquated than my great-grandmother’s china (which I have a set of). I haven’t really had much luck with meeting people out here who I would feel comfortable hanging out with on a regular basis. Having moved to a small town three years ago, that has become even more difficult.
I find people intensely fascinating while somewhat incomprehensible and majored in Sociology in college with a wide interest in other academic-like areas. I consider myself decently well read, have an eclectic background, and am fairly open-minded on most subjects. I have spent several years in the fannish community in the greater San Jose area including BayCon, Consonance, Pantheacon, and Con Jose. I used to be involved in a couple of Renaissance Faire groups a number of years ago and in Star Trek fandom. Some of the other groups that I have spent time have branched out from meeting people at some of these events.
I have spent three weeks in France in 1988 and a long weekend in London, UK in January of 2008. I would love to spend a lot more time in the UK with much of it outside of the major cities. While there were some interesting things, I am afraid I didn’t find London to be much different from any other city. And I didn’t manage to have a good tea break while I was there, either, so I really want to fix that. Looking at some of my interests, I may be considered a bit of an Anglophile but not too seriously. There are other countries I would like to visit some day as well.
I have three children. One is a college graduate from San Francisco State University, California, in Art and Interior Design. The other two are both now in elementary school. I have no difficulties in holding conversations on a highly intellectually level and on many subjects other than children.
I am a huge Jim Henson fan and I love The Muppets though I don’t get into everything Henson. I lean toward interest in Celtic culture in a non-obsessive way. Some types of history and mythology are a bit of a hobby and I have books so I can look things up and not have to remember it all. I took Shakespeare classes for fun in college. I have a bit of a thing for Alice in Wonderland though not American McGee or Disney. I' a bit of a geek in a variety of areas.
I have interest in a lot of different areas but I don’t normally tend to be too obsessive about or into the trivial level of them. Some subjects are possible to hit some of my hot buttons for in depth discussions, however.
I take online courses for fun in a what ever subject interests me from Future Learn. I try not to have more than three running at a time.
Interests: Culture, cooking, crochet, sewing, travel, costuming, poetry, writing, cats, board games, card games, reading, and more. I have been known to game but I am not a gamer, I just date them. There are more on my profile.
Music: Very little past the 1980’s. ‘50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are common. Movie soundtracks are good. Some classical. No rap, hip hop, hard rock, etc. Some local groups and bands from where I used to live.
Books: Fantasy, some Science Fiction, mythology, fables, fairy tales, mysteries, social theory, some spiritual/religion, manga, Shakespeare, and other stuff. Many authors and age group books. Almost anything can be considered fiction by someone’s standards.
Movies: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Comedy, Romance, Musicals, Anime, Classics. Widely varied. Not Horror. I only really like haunted house type horror. I have a few hundred DVDs and you may be surprised by the number of movies I have never seen plus those I have no intention of seeing.
TV: I don’t really watch it. I do watch some series but usually after than have been out for while. A decent percent of them are BBC. Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Doctor Who (all), Remington Steele, and more. I have watched Miss Fisher Mysteries, Murdock, and Agents of Shield most recently.
