I just finished reading 'Firestarter' by Stephen King, which is the first book by King I've ever read, and it was quite good. It's mostly about parapsychological research and a girl with the ability of pyrokinesis, hence the title. It's supposed to be spooky or something, but it wasn't - what WAS was going to the Wikipedia Main Page and finding

Since you're a good LotR fan, I think you should check out King's Dark Tower series. I have a copy of the first book (which is relatively short, really) for you when you get back in town, if you're interested.

i just sold the third book for $60 on the internet.

That sounds super duper bizarre. Was it some extra special edition? I'm pretty sure it's still available for regular paperback prices...

i don't really understand it myself, but amazon doesn't sell book three in hardcover. i've never heard of a limited run on a title from the middle of a series.
