Someone rhionnach was paying money to claimed they wouldn’t necessarily get it if she used the Post Office rather than a bank. This was puzzling as she had previously used the Post Office regularly to pay that bill. As far as I can gather, the problem is that while bank staff know what they are doing, the same is not necessarily the case with everyone working in Post Offices, particularly smaller sub-POs.
If you have the stamped receipt from the Post Office (that’s how it works, isn’t it? - we haven’t paid utility bills over the counter for ages) then you can photocopy that, send it to Scottish Power (or whoever) and they can chase up the Post Office.
I had the stamped letter and giro and I took that down. Turns out that what they needed to do was to tear off the giro to be able to pay the bill to the company. Luckily they had retained the cash in a marked bag in the till and are now (fingers crossed) in the process of paying it off.
I reckon if I paid a bill in the PO in great junction street in leith then it would never get to the intended person. Used them a few times and the bloke knows what he's doing but his daughter is fucking useless.
