In which I went total fangirl for the evening...

I totally love how some evenings take an unexpected turn and ends up being so much fun. Last night was one of these occasions where I totally scored free tickets to the Old Vic to see Noel Coward's Design for Living, perv and fangirl some very fine men and met a brand new friend in the form of canadian_turtle.

Yesterday's dreary lunch time resulted in my usual facebooking during my lunch hour with the infamous Guy's Hospital red soup of doom. However, I noticed on my facebook page, a notice from the Old Vic offering 5 pairs of free tickets to last night's press night performance. Thinking I'd probably had no chance but seemed no harm in trying, I send my details to the Old Vic. I didn't manage to check my emails until 5.30 when I got home from a horrible time genotyping at work and found an email in my inbox offering me a pair of free tickets.

By then, I was torn between going and staying at home (as I already saw the play). Not only that, I had no one who was able to accompany me at such late notice. So I took a chance and posted a notice on andrewscottfans in hopes of finding a fellow Londoner who might be interested in going. Lo and behold! The wonderful canadian_turtle answered and about an hour before curtains up, we decided to jump on the train hurriedly and meet up at the Old Vic.

The play was magnificent against the backdrop of a terrific audience. I even enjoyed the intervals in between acts where I got chatting to canadian_turtle and sharing our passion for all things theatre, Sherlock, DW and stuff in general. Its so nice to be able to be all fangirly with unabashed shame. After a play, canadian_turtle convinced me to go to the stage door, something I had always wanted to do but always too shy to do.

On our way out, we unexpectedly bumped into our favourite higher functioning sociopath, Benedict Cumberbatch looking all sexy in a leather jacket and gingery. I was quite shocked at the ginger-ness and had to do a double take just confirm that my eyes were not playing tricks on me. Thank God he did not catch me staring with my mouth hanging like some idiot. And just as quickly, he breezed out of the theatre in a Sherlock-esque way to the after party.

On the way to the stage door, we also managed to bumped into the great Kevin Spacey obviously here to support one of his productions. At the stage door, we had to wait for a bit but then again, the Boys did have to dress up for the after party. Eventually the lovely Tom Burke showed up wearing a gorgeous pin stripe suit. Very classy. Got him to sign my playbill and told him that he was wonderful in the play. Soon enough, the very lovely Andrew Scott showed dressed in a lovely beige suit. Not Westwood but we can't have it all. He was so lovely and friendly and even remembered canadian_turtle from the last time she met him! How sweet! Anyway, I did manage to say that he was wonderful in the play (truth!) and he shall now forever more my Leo Mercure. Squee!

After all this, they (meaning Tom, Andrew and Lisa) were piling into the car on their way to the after party at which seeing all three of them climb into one car was enough to put my mind into the very bottom of the gutter. Which I can say is a lovely frame of mind to end a terribly wonderful evening. Anyway the money shot is this:

Edited to include this photo I found which has utterly and completely killed me for some reason:

fangirl flailing, squee!
