I got a call this morning already. The only thing I thought might be an issue was the fencing issue, and evidently it wasn't an issue at all. He will have one last checkup with the shelter's vet tomorrow afternoon, and since I'll be sleeping off an overnight shift, and it's a 40 minute drive by myself (the hub has a trip to Atlanta Tu-Th), we set ( Read more... )

BTW, I realized my computational skills were a bit off in the above post. It was 2004 when the vet visits stopped, not 2002. But even so, that's still a helluva long time. It's a miracle he didn't test positive for heartworm or Lyme disease, after all the time he was in the garage.

I had a question for the shelter which I e-mailed yesterday, and in order to get the answer they actually contacted the family. The owner's daughter gave her name and number to the shelter worker and asked her to pass them on to me, because she was interested in updates from time to time, if I was agreeable. And also said "thank you for adopting Patriot." Kind of a surprising attitude (wanting updates), but anyone with a modicum of humanity would feel bad about how he'd been neglected, I guess.
