[ A light clearing of her throat here, but it's more a prepping of voice really before she pauses and then, of course, speaks. ]

I guess for those who are new to Westerberg--faculty, staff, and students--I should introduce myself. I'm Emma Pillsbury, the guidance counselor. My office is located in the corridor off of the main administration wing, ( Read more... )

I can't even tell you how glad I am you're still around. Not that you wouldn't be--or that you don't want to...uhm.

Anyhow.

Seriously.

Yes.

My morning classes didn't suck! That's a good sign, right..? And--I'm thinking about..uhm..making a club. That's not a poorly planned idea on my part, is it?

I'll be around as long as this school is here, and that's good to hear--about your morning classes. I hope your afternoon ones are even better.

A club is an excellent idea. Doubt is normal but you know it's okay to try for some optimism too. What kind of club?

Hey Miss Pillsbury, hope everything's going well.

I think I should probably keep seeing you, you know, about the leg thing this year.

Thank you Peeta. That's very sweet of you. Everything is fine.

And I think that would be best as long as that's how you feel too. You're under no obligation to see me, but it's better to talk about these things, I think. It helps us move on from them, adapt as much as we can.

How was your first day?

Someone said I should see you.

I have no class.

No class---as in you didn't get a schedule?

Miss Parker, right?

Just Parker.

Truant officer told me I had to come. No one said I had to register or anything.

Parker then. Registering gives you a schedule, which is usually helpful. If you would stop by my office we can see what you need at the moment in your academic history and then what slots you want to fill up with your electives.

Does that sound alright?

Nice too meet you. I do hope we won't have to see each other too often, though. I've had it with guidance counselors after Ohtori.

Well, not everyone chooses to make appointments, and outside of those and a few required meetings, you don't have to of course, but if you do ever want to, my door is open.

Certainly, if I need to.

Ms. Pillsbury,

I hope your summer was relaxing and that this year is starting well.

I have a purely hypothetical question regarding the relative moral indecency of several actions and I would appreciate your opinion. Which of the following is the least morally reprehensible: a) Homicide (with ample provocation); b) Suicide; or c) Homicide followed immediately by suicide. Again, this question is entirely hypothetical.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Justin Pendleton

Well, if I'm going to be completely honest I would have to say that they are almost equally reprehensible---the homicide with ample provocation seeming the least but it's still not something anyone should do ever unless in self-defense-- but the reasons are different and I'm sure that it varies depending on the people involved. May I ask if there is there anything in particular that brought you to this hypothetical question?

Anyway, thank you for those kind wishes, Justin. How was your summer?

Existence, generally. Arrogant juniors, specifically. I won't act on impulse, but it seemed to be a question worth asking. Your opinion on moral and ethical dilemmas is important.

Summer wasn't worth discussing. Thank you for replying, Ms. Pillsbury.
