Happy Birthday, Tom!

Happy 31st birthday, Tom!

In honor of his birthday, I'd like to post a few of my favorite acting moments/episodes from him on the show.

1) Vengeance - I think this is probably in my top 5 favorite episodes of Smallville, and I think it's one of Tom's best episodes on the show ever. All throughout the episode, you could tell Clark was brimming with ( Read more... )

What a nice way to wish him a happy birthday!

My list pretty much mirrors yours, though I might take out Descent and stick in Exile. Or, from this season, Persona, where he expertly played 2 very seperate characters. I so love that Bizarro/Brainiac scene in the alley. He was so good.

And welcome home!

Oh, yes. Those are some very good episodes, too. TW as Bizarro was just awesomeness. There was a lot to choose from, which is always good. :)

Thanks!

What a great idea, and I can't really think of any aside from this...

I might pick Reckoning. I know a lot of people hated that episode, I loved it mostly for reasons aside from the storyline, but Tom's portrayal of Clark's grief was awesome. At the accident scene, when he pled with Jor-El to save her, later when his father had died, at the house with Martha, at the funeral... The whole episode was beautifully performed by Tom.

I recently watched the cut scene on the DVD where Clark was pleading Jor-El to save Jonathan... What a shame that didn't make the episode.

He was brilliant... What a great moment for him.

I thought he was excellent in Reckoning. From pure happiness to total devastation and heartbreak, he sold it well.

I also love the cut scene on the DVDs, and I hate that they cut it, too.

Lovely idea!
I agree with all your choices, though I'd probably take out Descent and include "Exile", like Valerie. He was awesome as Kal!
I loved him in "Hidden" too. His performance was decisive to make it one of my favorite episodes ever.
There are so many great moments/episodes from him! My list would be VERY long! lol

I loved him as Kal. Tom was great in that episode, espcially his scene with Chloe and when Clark called home and couldn't even speak. Terrific. "Exile" is probably my favorite season premiere along with "Arrival".

"Hidden" was another one. He plays comedy so well. I think we'd be here all day listing his best scenes on the show. :)

What a wonderful way to honor Tom on his birthday! I love all your choices, those are definitely high points of Tom's tenure on Smallville, and the way you describe them brings them to life in my mind perfectly. Thank you ( ... )

No problem. :)

Tom sold me on Clark, even way back in the first season as someone who was kind, funny, smart. "Leech" is a very good episode because of that, imho.

My first reaction when I read your post was "What a wonderful way to honor Tom on his birthday", lol, just like tariel22 said.

I agree with those that said "add Exile."

If I had to pick a new eppy, I'd actually say the "Pilot." He is green, yes, but he also showed such vulnerability that moves me every time I see it. To me, that is the crux of Superman. His naivity and fear about what is happening to him seems so genuine.

I love Clark in the "Pilot". I could tell from the get-go that Tom Welling was the perfect choice for the role.
