You know, this isn't a general episode review, but a post about where I am wrt Chloe's character. To start it off, I want to quote something Bitterswete said on TWoP in the episode thread.

"Also, a real writer is always a writer. It never stops. You might not be working as a writer, or even actually writing anything. But it's always there. And ( Read more... )

No problem. I just couldn't keep silent on this.

No one would accept that if Clark said it, so why am I supposed to buy it when Chloe says it? And honestly? I can't help but look at the metatextual reasons for why they are doing this. Do they honestly believe that two female journalists can't co-exist? I feel like I am being forced to believe this OOC changes in Chloe because Lois is here, and well, "it's her turn." Well, sorry, but no.

Word. Just batches of it. For all of it.

(Also I sent you an email, I don't know if you got it.)

Thanks. This episode just left me very frustrated.

And no, I didn't get an e-mail. Send it to hiddenvengeance@bellsouth.net .

I think that’s what the writers feel, but I always fanwanked it that in this universe, Chloe would be the worldy investigative journalist and Lois the Inquisitor, tacky tabloid journalist.

I know (I think I know) that the writers think that having Chloe serve as Oracle is a step up, but you're absolutely right, when hasn't investigating the truth and journalism not been Chloe thing? And the fact that Lois had no prior interest in it whatsover and is now traveling the world meeting the Dalai Lama is even more weird.

Exactly! This show had it set up this way for 6 seasons, I don't know why they decided to change it.

The Dalai Lama thing was just overkill and totally unrealistic. I'd be amazed to meet someone that important after graduating from college, just starting out in the field. Truth and journalism has always meant Chloe for me on this show, and no matter how much they try, I'm not going to stop believing that.

This is like reading my own thoughts without all the anger and the cursing. Thank you for putting it so intelligently and to answer some of your questions (albeit rhetorical):

I think we are expected to believe this. I think we're being told to believe this. I believe they're sacrificing everything Chloe has stood for when it comes to journalism for the sake of mythos characters and in the process trampling all over Chloe.

They have taken away her passion and her ambition and her desire for writing and they expect us to believe it's what she wants because...just because.

Well, I refuse to. I'm not so stupid that I can't see what's happening and I call Bullshit!!

This is what is so sad to me. One of the reasons I was attracted to this show was because of the retelling of Superman's story, and yet they continued to disregard their own continuity for the sake of mythos. Why? I don't give a damn about mythos. I want a well told story that is ORGANIC to the characters and what we've been seeing since 2001.

I've watched the scene with Ollie telling Chloe that she can't go back to reporting and it occurs to me that it's very Chloisy (contrived but Chloisy). If Chloe Sullivan can't go back to reporting... Chloe using the pseudonym Lois Lane can! :)

I sincerely hope that's what that means, but I'm just about out of faith. :(
