Why do we smile for the camera?

Looking at the christmas party pictures inthemood4love had taken, a question came into my mind. Why do people smile when a picture is taken of them? It is something that we do almost instintively due to social conditioning. Perhaps it's a psychological expression of our innate desire for positive well-being. We feel happier when we see ourselves appearing happy

Actually, not everyone smiles for the camera. Some try to look stern and "manly"... =P
