Happy Birthday to you~ Happy Birthday to you~ Happy Birthday, Dear Myungsoo hyung~ Happy birthday to you!

Myungsoo snaps out of his slumber as the early rays of dawn and Sungjong’s lemon-candy-birthday-greeting fill the room. (He’s usually a heavy sleeper, but he guesses it’s a natural reaction. After all, real-life Sungjong is more than his nightly dreams could ever hope for). He fondly remembers Sungjong recording the greeting on his iPod exactly a year ago, voice overflowing with aegyo. He laughs as he remembers the hyungs whining at him for acting too cute-not Myungsoo though; he could never get enough of the younger boy. Myungsoo sighs and is thankful that Dongwoo is a heavier sleeper than he is. It would be embarrassing if his roommate ever witnessed him giggling. (Kim Myungsoo does not giggle, he says indignantly, but the thought of a smiling Lee Sungjong proves him otherwise).

He just knows that Sungjong is outside that door, waiting for him to come out. He can imagine the younger boy getting ready to pounce on him and attack him with tons of birthday kisses. Myungsoo’s skin tingles with pink and excitement. He peeks out the door and sees only a messy pile of clothes and stacked-up books near their electric fan. The soft sheets and his bamboo pillow are exactly where he left them. That’s strange, Myungsoo thinks. Where is he?

He decides to check on Hoya, Sungyeol, and Sungjong’s room, secretly of course, because maybe his surprise is in there. Myungsoo opens the door quietly, Ne-Yo’s “Mad” playing softly on still-sleeping-Hoya’s laptop. He looks at the top bunk at the left side of the room to find Sungjong visibly absent, assaulted white teddy bear abandoned in a corner. Myungsoo drifts his line of sight to the top bunk on the opposite side, and true enough, his surprise is there. Sungjong is still asleep, left hand limply holding on to Sungyeol’s stuffed dog, right hand on the choding’s waist. The elementary school boy has his mouth hanging slightly open, arms around Sungjong, his chin tucking Sungjong’s head snugly against his chest. A slight whimpering is heard, and Myungsoo can’t tell if he or the snoring Sungyeol produced that sound. Myungsoo almost literally runs out of the cramped bedroom because no, today is not a good day for hearts to crack.

He’s glaring at the surface of the wood table where they eat their breakfast when the members start to wake up and sleepily drag their feet out of their rooms. Leader Sunggyu is out first, puffing out his hamster cheeks and smiling until his eyes disappear. Happy Birthday, Myungsoo-ah, he says, as he ruffles the visual’s hair messily. The face of Infinite half-smiles, and their caring leader’s greeting lifts his mood up just a little bit.The others come quickly after that, Woohyun bounding into the kitchen after cheesily grinning at Myungsoo, shouting I’ll make special breakfast today for the birthday boy! Hoya and Sungyeol leap at him and each pinch his cheeks, earning loud complaints (not really) from Myungsoo. Dongwoo starts rapping this comical verse, and he has Myungsoo hysterically laughing.

They all start to sit down to eat Woohyun’s exceptional treat when Sunggyu notices that Sungjong is the only one missing. Where is our little maknae? Sunggyu starts. We left him sleeping a while ago, Hoya answers. Myungsoo’s face immediately darkens, and there is almost literally a rain cloud over his head. He thinks it’s like getting slapped in the face with I’m not waking up for you.

Myungsoo swears Sungjong has an umbrella protecting his petite frame though because the younger does not notice his boyfriend’s sullen expression when he skips to the dining room ten minutes later, carelessly greeting Good morning, hyungs. He plops beside Myungsoo and stares at the food with wide eyes. Wow, Woohyun hyung, what’s all this for?

Myungsoo’s frown deepens. He decides to question the younger boy.

“Sungjongie, do you know what day it is today?”

“Hyung, it’s March 13.”

“And?”

“And it’s Tuesday?”

“And?”

“I don’t know. Oh, I almost forgot! I have an early schedule today! Thanks for reminding me, Myungsoo hyung!” Sungjong exclaims as he takes two bites of his vegetable pancake and rushes off to his room to prepare (Yah! Finish your food! Woohyun yelps after him). Myungsoo becomes even more crestfallen when he sees Sungyeol questioningly mouthing to Hoya, what schedule?

-

Myungsoo groans as he hits the soothing mattresses of his bed, face down on the soft blankets. People have been greeting him all day, Inspirits and fellow idols and drama actors, and that’s the happy part; only a certain boyfriend hasn’t, however, and it’s not relieving his stress at all. Myungsoo is so exhausted that he thinks he can fall asleep the moment he shuts his eyes. He’s on his way to candyland (at least the Sungjong there actually cares) when he hears quiet footsteps padding on the floor and feels the sheets and pillows dip down. Myungsoo thinks it must be Dongwoo who sat with him in the van on the way back to the dorm, but a pair of warm arms wraps around his waist, and he suddenly remembers that Dongwoo went out again, this time with Hoya, for ice cream. Myungsoo doesn’t think he’s ready for this yet, because the pounding of his heart blocks the thoughts from forming correctly.

Hyung, a voice similar to a tinkling bell whispers, I can’t believe you’d do wrong against me.

Myungsoo shoots up and glares at Sungjong, and for the first time since they got together, he’s actually mad. Me? What did I do to you? Myungsoo is almost snarling at the now stoic boy. Shouldn’t I be the one blaming you?

Silence, one, two, before, Hyung, Sungjong says with a sudden and unexpected smile, you didn’t let me finish. I can’t believe you would actually think that I, Lee Sungjong, head over heels in love with you since the moment you walked through that practice room door, would actually forget your birthday. Sungjong laughs, and Myungsoo is confused.

What I’m trying to say is, happy birthday, hyung. Sungjong wraps his arms around Myungsoo’s neck (at this point, Myungsoo can’t think properly; all that’s important is the boy pressing close to his body) and pecks him lightly on the lips. Before Myungsoo can react beyond blushing red, Sungjong laughs once again and lets go. Myungsoo is about to protest the loss of warmth when Sungjong tells him to close his eyes.

Myungsoo obliges and tries to figure out what’s coming. One minute, he’s pouting at the thought of not being able to see Sungjong behind closed eyelids, and the next, his face is smothered in pink frosting and his hair is dripping whipped cream. Sungjong has fallen off the bed, laughing hilariously while rolling on the floor. As the aegyo king is wiping the tears out of his eyes, Myungsoo opens his own and stares at him with disbelief.

Hyung, you look so funny with the cake all over your face! Sungjong giggles, as he swipes a finger at Myungsoo’s frosting-laden cheek and tastes the pastry, mimicking Myungsoo’s actions during Sungjong’s birthday party the previous year. I did a good job with the cake, Sungjong muses. Myungsoo is at a loss for words (as he always is whenever Sungjong takes his breath away).

Hyung, I’m sorry for this morning. Don’t be mad anymore, okay? Happy birthday, Sungjong leans in and kisses Myungsoo on the lips, softly and sweetly. And I love you. Myungsoo can taste the sugar and the whipped cream from the cake with just a hint of lemon (so distinctly Sungjong’s), and he doesn’t mind Sungjong greeting him really late on his birthday if it means knowing the younger nonetheless puts him at the center of his world (just like how he’s the center of Myungsoo’s).

Sungjong sleeps with him that night, Dongwoo agreeing to sleep in Hoya’s room. Myungsoo wraps his arms around Sungjong’s thin frame, and the younger presses his palms against the visual’s strong chest. Myungsoo kisses Sungjong’s forehead tenderly before quietly muttering, Sleep. They turn in for the night, both on their way to their dreams. They’ll meet each other there.

(You never did tell me why you slept with Sungyeol the night before my birthday, Myungsoo muses, with just a hint of protectiveness, shoulders brushing lightly against Sungjong’s. Everyone except them is asleep in the van going home, Infinite having just completed a tiring performance on Inkigayo.

Oh, you know how I can’t sleep properly at night when I can’t cuddle with anyone? I figured you wanted some of your quality sleep before your big day, so I left you alone, Sungjong says as he yawns and leans his head on Myungsoo’s shoulder.

Silly Sungjongie, Myungsoo chuckles, I’d stay up all night just to watch my angel sleep peacefully, don’t you know that? Sungjong buries his head deeper into his hyung’s shoulder, tips of his ears turning a very lovey-dovey shade of scarlet. Myungsoo thinks the possibility of Dongwoo becoming permanent roommates with Hoya and Sungyeol is coming very soon as he quietly laughs again and kisses Sungjong on the crown of his head.)

A/N: Written as a birthday fanfic for Myungsoo! I used the old dorm arrangements (during Sesame Player) if anyone is wondering. ^^; The ideas came from fanfics floating around the internet, so credits to the authors of those works. ^^
