Never Thought The Day Would Come...

Apr 19, 2004 16:30

Today is a sad, sad day... I had to buy a water squirt bottle for Usul. I have sworn for years that this was not a necessary discipline technique for cats, and instead would cause worse behavioral problems than the one you are trying to correct, but it seems I have run out of options and have no choice ( Read more... )

"at which time he faces the wall (???) in the corner and begins to meow."

It conjured up an image of the last scene in the Blair Witch Project, but instead of a man, I saw a kitty standing in the corner.

Maybe your cat is just annoying? I know Ziggy likes to purposely knock stuff off of tables just to piss me off. I can tell it's on purpose because of "the look" she gives me. She'll knock something off and I'll pick it back up and she'll knock it off again, etc., etc. This will go on for a good 10 to 12 times before she figures out that I will continue to pick up whatever it is she knocked off until one of us dies from exhaustion. And, yes, she does this at night too. My eye drops are not safe, my ashtray is not safe (and neither is my carpet for that matter), the cup of melted ice is not safe, nor is my alarm clock, or any other item on my bedside table.

oh no, i totally understand how you feel. one of my cats is a meower. ALL the time! and it didn't start right away when i got him. two cats, both neutered males, same as yours. the small cat, Ishaboo, started meowing all the time but mostly when I was around. then we started hearing him in strange parts of the house meowing, too. so.... i think it's just the way he communicates. love him dearly, but damn, it's annoying as hell. it's been two years since i have lived with them, but Dave says it has gotten better. still meows a lot, but he's calmed down. never tried the water bottle... let me know how that goes

Ugh - I don't want to do it but I feel it is necessary to make it clear to him that this is unacceptable behavior. I hate the goddam water bottle method. But yeah... it is really my fault because I talk to them back... but this is absurd in the middle of the night for no reason. They have always talked a lot, but this is crazy.

Do you think Usel knows you are moving soon? Cats get so funny when they see boxes being packed up. I think cats wonder if you will keep them or not =)

I grew up with cats but I've never had this 'problem'. Just once. The cat was already older than 16 years and she was simply ill and going to die. That's a certain kind of meowing. You can hear the pain in it. How old is your cat? Maybe she was put away from her mom too soon. That can cause several psychic troubles. Shots won't solve the issue in longer terms. May try it with some natural/ organic stuff to relax your kitty. Good luck.

This is absolutely true. He was the runt of the litter and the last one to go... and she stopped feeding him so the owners had to bottle feed him for a little while until I took him. It has cause many psychological issues, but this is a new problem. They are only six years old.
