History will teach us nothing...

Convince an enemy, convince him that he's wrong
Is to win a bloodless battle where victory is long
A simple act of faith
In reason over might
To blow up his children will only prove him right

Wake up, people. It is an ugly, UGLY, UGLY world. There are two things that we are dealing with - reality and fantasy ( Read more... )

"I mean, in your mind make a list of all the peaceful, selfless, giving, and compassionate people you have ever known, and then make a list of all the hateful, violent, selfish and dishonest people you have ever known. Suddenly you realize that people prefer the latter."

Uhhh, no, I really prefer peaceful people.

The voices of peaceful leaders like Ghandi and Mother Theresa may seem like only whispers amidst the current violence but they are still there for anyone who wants to try a different way.

Some people, no matter how much money/power/property they have, still will never be satisfied. Unfortunately, sometimes those greedy people also have excellent leadership skills and can persuade others to join their warped cause. Still, the decadence of humanity is not an excuse to abandon all hope in the human race.

Just because you prefer them doesn't mean that 1) they are in the majority or 2) they will ever change the way the world works. I know you are a peaceful person, Janny.

Exactly, that's the only thing we can do unless we decide to give up hope. What is the other option?

I agree, I mean you have to do whatever it is that you do... and for me it is the following:

- be so nice to people they either fucking can't stand me, don't trust it or take ridiculous advantage of my affections, etc.

- always think the best of people and then be completely devastated when they turn out to be assholes... at which time I refuse to believe the worst in them even though they are trying to prove it to me.

- never give up on people despite it being in my best interest to dodge shifty asshole who are being totally dishonest with me... I have this adorable trait of trying to "help" people who don't want to be "helped".

Believe me, I feel like it would be impossible for me to be any other way... so I plan on continuing my foolish behavior and keep on loving. But ultimately, I have met less people like me than I have who were complete dicks. I feel very LUCKY for the friends I have... I know good, honest people are not in abundance.
