Personal and Political Boundaries

Aw man, I wish teenage boys didn't eat so damn much. I spend half of my free time either shopping for them, or preparing something to eat. It would be nice if I could starve them to death, but I've put in so much work already to quit now, and they complain a lot. Hence why their squeaky wheel gets the grease. Still no print book, although happily, ( Read more... )

I need some more time to direct my swirling thoughts into something somewhat logical....but what really struck me with the book and with this post is Sookie herself.

Here is a woman. She is often referred to and regularly dismissed as a mere barmaid from a small backwards town, uneducated and somewhat trivial. And yet this woman basically has two vampire rulers somewhat quaking in their boots. She has in effect altered the vampire political landscape. And Sookie didn't even try to do it! Freyda is concerned enough to ban her from OK for life (and wanted to make the penalty death). How many other people out there do you think have a vampire order protection of don't taste, don't touch, don't coerce??

In fact, Felipe and Freyda should be thanking their lucky stars that Sookie doesn't want to become a vampire. Think of what she could do then! She could be a thorn in their side forever and not just for the next 50 years.

Go Team Sookie!

I know! This book was a big one in terms of working out all the bits of it.

I think the only other similarly protected person is Dracula. :D He's not allowed to be refused anything at all. :D But yeah - that is pretty profound - that she has them doing stuff to make it clear that she matters, and that policy should be made to deal specifically with the threat that is Sookie Stackhouse. Imagine how the weres and shifters are going to gossip up a storm about that one!

I think that'd be a pretty scary prospect for most vampires. Particularly if her luck held out. Eric is absolutely right that she'd make a magnificent vampire all the way round. She'd hate it, but she'd just kick arse all the time.

Yay! Go Team Sookie indeed!
