I don't know what it was that finally motivated me to go looking for Thalia. It had been over a month since our rescue party went into dinosaur territory, since I had kissed Annabeth, and possibly, maybe, probably ruined our friendship forever. Thalia looked up, fingers still working at the bow she was stringing. It wasn't the best work she had done, but this was a spare bow. It didn't need to be perfect. It merely had to be good enough to get the job done.

What little job there was. That was what made her crazy. There never seemed to be enough to do. All of the kindness and light of this place made her skin crawl. There had to be some sort of agenda. It just didn't fit.

This subject didn't surprise her. Thalia knew Annabeth and she knew what she had seen. If Jackson wanted to know details than he was barking up the wrong tree.

Still, she would hear him out. It was the least that she could do and besides, she wanted to have stuff to report back to Annabeth later. "Sure. What's on your mind?"

"I think I'm an idiot," I said, just throwing it out there. Thalia might jump all over the admission, but it was how I felt. "You saw what happened when we got Annabeth out of dinosaur territory. She's hardly been speaking to me since. I think I made a mistake, and I've ruined everything, and I don't know what to do."
