I opened my mouth to answer, then hesitated. I had no idea how to broach this with Luke, mostly because I had no idea, really, how to broach this with myself. But, after a moment, I figured the best way was just to start at the beginning.

I realize afterward by saying the sentences "cute girl" and "looks like Thalia" could make someone join the two. I didn't mean to. Not that Thalia doesn't look nice -- she does. Just not as nice as Valkyrie. Who smiles more.

Luke's patience produces a silence I find rather awkward. I know that's not his intention, but what can I do? I fill that pause, stumbling a little. "Well, we've been seeing each other a bit. You know. At the carnival. And when the Muppets attacked, I got really upset because I won her a teddybear and I knew I'd put her in danger. Her and Coraline. So I had to go and check out their huts."

Coraline's clearly a distraction. I'm sure I'm not fooling anyone.
