Outright bribery

Well, the food bribery we've been employing on Kei seems to be working. He now accepts more meat and veg than he ever did before (even if in modest quantities) and his teachers are reporting he's eating a lot more normally at preschool ( Read more... )

In this particular context I think bribery is completely fine.

When it comes to children on overly restricted diets it's all about getting a wider range into their mouths, again and again and again until they fully accept that it's safe, it's normal, and it's even nice, until you're down to an acceptably small rump of tastes that you are prepared to count as legitimate dislikes. It's the 9/11/13/17 tastes theory, and to my mind any non-traumatic means of achieving those tastes is fair game.
