Well, so's been about two two weeks now. The first week didn't really count, though, 'cause it was Golden Week or whatever it's called, so stuff was all closed an' there weren't any classes. Guess that's why so many new students showed up then, though.

S'kinda weird - I mean, s'not excactly lonely or anything, but it's really quiet upstairs. ( Read more... )

I've taken to simply borrowing Sanada's notes when I get too horribly lost. You may find it is easiest to take notes in Japanese, when you get a bit more used to writing in the language.

... Yeah, guess I could just borrow someone's notes. Japanese's prolly best, but I can't just take notes in only hiragana forever. Well, prolly not...

I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles~ My mother always said that it's a matter of not thinking of it as two languages that you have to constantly translate back in forth; to do so is tokeep your distance from what you're saying/hearing/thinking/writing. She always suggested to think of it as a constant flow of synonyms. 'House' is just another word for 'house'. 'Sound' is just another way of saying 'sound'.

My father, on the other hand, said that to do it that way will only end with you mixing the two languages into one indecipherable jumble. He said that the only way to learn a language was to learn a language. He was fond of the 'immerse yourself completely' method - totally and completely. Never using your first language, only the one you're learning. 'Linguistics is a discipline' he would say.

Geez, do you know how long it took me to read

I think your dad's way is kinda less confusing. But your mom's way is prolly what my notes look like. If I fail out at least I'll know why.
