Title: Never Alone
Pairing: Heechul/Yesung
Disclaimer: I don't own Heechul but Yesung is ALL MINE!!! MWAHAHAHA!!!
Summary: Heechul needs to get over his heartbreak and Yesung has exactly what he needs to move on.
Prompt: 006 - Burn
“Hankyung is just so… so… I mean, his smile is… He’s just… Perfect!! Yeah, that’s it. He’s perfect!”
Kyuhyun smiled slightly. This was not the first time he’d heard Heechul rant about the piece of perfection, at least in Heechul’s mind, that was Hankyung. Today, Heechul had decided he missed Hankyung too much and felt the need to release his tension on Kyuhyun and his brother.
“I can’t get enough of his smile! He really is perfect. I mean, no one can-“
“We get it, Heechul. Shut up,” Kangin, Kyuhyun’s older brother, sighed exasperatedly. He understood Heechul needed to express himself but he didn’t know why he had to listen to it. Wasn’t Kyuhyun enough? Did he have to be there as well?
“Kangin, you don’t get it. And you won’t ever get it. You’ve never felt like this and you probably never will with that attitude of yours,” Heechul snapped, obviously annoyed at being interrupted in the midst of his ranting.
“Hyung, why don’t you just go and talk to him? It’d probably make you feel better,” Kyuhyun said, intervening before someone got hurt, which tended to happen when Kangin and Heechul were in the same room.
“Talk to him? Are you crazy or something??” Heechul screeched, looking at him in horror. “No way!”
“Then what’s the point of pining away for him if you won’t even talk to him? You’re just wasting my time,” Kangin said.
“Hyung, you won’t know what will happen unless you talk to him yourself,” Kyuhyun reasoned.
“I know… It’s just…” Heechul found himself at a loss for words.
“What? The fact that you’ve asked to get back together twice and got rejected both times?” Kangin asked nastily.
Heechul glared at him.
“Why don’t you just give him up? You’re never gonna do anything about it anyway,” Kangin said, turning towards the television as if the conversation was already over. “Chicken,” he muttered under his breath.
“Yah!” Heechul hit him on the back of the head. “Shut up! You don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Kyuhyun pressed his lips together and glared at his brother. Turning back to Heechul, he said, “I think it’d be better if you talked to him. At least let him know how you feel. You’re not solving anything by sitting here talking to us.”
Heechul sighed. “I was stupid, wasn’t I? For breaking up with him in the first place.”
“Forget about that and talk to him, hyung,” Kyuhyun replied firmly.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“Look at it this way. If he says no again, all you have to do is jump off a building and all your problems will be solved.”
“What??”
“Okay, okay, how about this? Jump off a bridge instead.”
“What??!!”
“Fine. Jump in front of a train.”
“What is it with you and jumping???”
“Alright. Would you prefer poison? I think we have some rat poison in the store somewhere.”
“Yesung!!”
“What?”
“You’re not helping!”
“Oh, sorry. Well, what do you want me to do?”
“Anything. I don’t know. Advice me. Encourage me. Lift up my spirits.”
“How?”
“I don’t know!”
Yesung sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. Hotness overload!! “Look, Heechul, just go ahead and ask him. The worst that could happen is he says no.”
“Exactly. He could say no! He could reject me! And that is the absolute worst thing that can happen!”
“Yeah, but it won’t be the end of the world.”
“It might as well be!”
“You’ll survive,” Yesung said dryly, with a ‘-.-‘ expression on his otherwise very hot face.
“What if I don’t?” Heechul asked in a tiny voice.
Yesung bit his lip. Although he had seen Heechul’s vulnerable side often enough, it still made him uncomfortable. “You will, Heechul,” Yesung said firmly. “I’ll be right here with a tonne of different ice cream flavours if you need it, alright?”
Heechul smiled a little. “You know the main reason I haven’t yet dumped you is the fact that your dad owns an ice cream factory, right?”
“Right,” Yesung replied. “And the only reason I haven’t dumped you yet is because…?”
“Cause I’m hot and you’re not,” Heechul replied, messing up Yesung’s hair and then running away before Yesung could respond.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
“Okay, now just be yourself and everything will be fine,” Yesung said reassuringly as Heechul peeped over the bush to get another glimpse of Hankyung.
“Where will you be?”
“Home, watching the sports channel.”
“Shut up. You hate sports.”
“Fine. I’ll be at the café across the street, having a latte and looking like the loneliest person in the world if you need me. Better?”
“Immensely.”
Yesung rolled his eyes. “Alright. Get out there.”
Before Heechul could reply, Yesung stood up straight and walked away, not before offering him another reassuring smile. Heechul sighed. If it hadn’t been for Yesung, he’d have run away right now.
With another sigh, Heechul stood up and walked over to where Hankyung was sitting on a bench, reading some book.
“Hankyung,” Heechul said firmly, hiding his nervousness quite well, if he said so himself.
Hankyung looked up. Evidently startled to see Heechul there, he replied, “Oh, Heechul. Um, hi.”
Heechul had had a lot of trouble to find out when Hankyung would be going out alone. Luckily Kyuhyun had a good relationship with Hankyung’s younger brother, Sungmin, and was able to pry out this titbit of information.
“Hi. Mind if I sit here?” Heechul asked.
“Uh, no. Sure, go ahead,” Hankyung replied uncertainly, obviously wondering what the hell Heechul was doing bothering his peaceful afternoon of reading.
“So, how’ve you been?” Heechul mentally slapped himself. What was this need for small talk?
“Fine, I guess. How about you?”
“Oh, you know. Doing okay for myself.” Heechul mentally slapped himself a second time.
“Okay then.” Not knowing what else to say, Hankyung looked down at his book.
“Found yourself a new boyfriend yet?” This time, Heechul mentally kicked himself on the behind.
Hankyung looked back up at him in surprise. “Um, no. No, I haven’t.”
“Why not?” This was a pleasant surprise.
“Oh, you know. Been busy. Studies. Parents,” Hankyung shrugged.
“Oh really?” This was not good. Did it mean that there had been others but who had been rejected due to Hankyung’s ‘busy’ schedule?
“Yeah…” Hankyung looked again at his book, obviously uncomfortable with their current topic.
Heechul decided to stop beating around the bush and just go straight to the point. “I’ve missed you,” he said, softly.
“Oh… really?” Hankyung mumbled noncommittally, keeping his eyes on his book. Heechul saw his brows furrow and knew that his words had a bigger effect on Hankyung than the man actually showed.
“I’ve really missed you,” Heechul said again, looking closely for Hankyung’s reaction. There were none. Hankyung merely pressed his lips together and turned the page of his book. Whether or not he was really reading, Heechul didn’t know.
“I haven’t been able to forget you,” Heechul added, touching Hankyung’s arm gently. Gently but firmly, Hankyung pulled his arm away but made no reply other than another turn of the page.
“Hankyung,” Heechul’s voice was close to cracking. “Please, just give me one more chance.”
Still not looking at Heechul, Hankyung said softly, “I’m sorry, Heechul. I… can’t.”
“Please. You don’t know what the last year had been for me without you,” Heechul was very, very close to tears by now.
Hankyung shook his head, his eyes shut. He still refused to look at Heechul. “Heechul, I’m sorry. I really am.”
“Just one more chance, Hankyung. I’ve changed. I swear,” Heechul stared at him pleadingly.
“No, Heechul,” Hankyung finally turned to him. His eyes were hard. “You had your chance a year ago. You blew it. I can’t… I can’t do this anymore.” He turned back to his book, unable to look at Heechul’s tears, which had begun to develop.
“Hankyung…” Heechul’s chest tightened and he didn’t know how he could continue without crying.
Hankyung stood up. “Heechul, I know you mean well. And you’re probably right. Maybe you have changed. But so have I. I’m not that weak person that needed protecting that you knew a year ago. I don’t need anyone else right now. I… I’m sorry. It’s just… not meant to be, I guess.”
Hankyung walked away, leaving Heechul behind. Never looking back at the person that used to make his heart thud so fast. Not once seeing the teary eyes that used to reassure him that everything was right in the world. Not hearing him say, “Hankyung…” one last time before breaking down completely.
Yesung saw all of it from his position in the café. He watched as Hankyung stood and walked away without looking back. He watched as Heechul, at a loss of what to do, burst into tears and cried his heart out. He clenched his fist. He wanted so badly to comfort Heechul, to go there and hold him, tell him that everything would be alright. But he knew he wouldn’t Heechul needed that time to be alone. He’d never forgive Yesung for seeing him then. Seeing him so vulnerable without his permission.
Yesung had known all along that Hankyung would say no. He had seen them together. Saw the way they used to look at each other. That light in Hankyung’s eyes at the mere sight of Heechul. It had faded. There had been no such light today. Hankyung did not feel the way he used to feel anymore. Yesung had known. But he had also known that this last rejection was exactly what Heechul needed. This breakdown was exactly what would help him to eventually move on.
So Yesung watched. And he prayed, prayed that this time, Heechul would finally get over Hankyung and live his life without him.
Unbidden, a tear rolled down Yesung’s cheek as he watched his best friend, and his love, expressing all his hurt in the form of tears.
;;;;;;;;;;;;
“What are you doing?” Yesung asked, as he watched Heechul take out picture after picture from the box he had brought with him.
“What does it look like I’m doing?” Heechul replied, not looking up.
“Looks like you’re taking out pictures from a box.”
Heechul glanced at him once before turning back to his pictures. “They’re pictures Hankyung that Sungmin gave me, before we broke up.”
“You mean the ones that Hankyung kept asking about that you never returned?” Yesung asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Heechul hissed acidly. “Now shut up and get me a candle.”
“What for?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Heechul asked, sweeping an arm over the pictures surrounding him on the floor.
“You want to look at them in candlelight?”
“No,” Heechul said with a huff. “I’m going to burn them, you idiot. Now go get me that candle!”
Yesung chuckled. “Alright. Keep your pants on.” He returned shortly with a long candlestick and some matches.
“Light it,” Heechul instructed as he looked through the pictures.
“Yes, General AssPants,” Yesung muttered, lighting up the candle and placing it on a candleholder from his desk.
“Turn off the lights,” Heechul added. Yesung obliged, shaking his head at the absurdity of it all.
Slowly, Heechul lifted the first picture, taken at the beach on a windy day. Heechul stopped himself from sniffing. No need to show weakness here. As the picture drew close to the candle flame, he heard Yesung ask softly, “Heechul.” Heechul turned his head only slightly away from the picture. Yesung saw the fire in his eyes and felt his heart flip at the sight. “Are you sure about this?”
Heechul hesitated for a second then said, “Yes, I’m sure about this. I need to do this.” He looked at Yesung then, suddenly unsure, suddenly needing the reassurance that he knew Yesung could, and would offer.
Yesung smiled, nodding slightly. Knowing exactly what Heechul needed and giving it, the way he always had, and the way he knew he always would.
Heechul turned back to the picture. His hand trembled, still held a few inches away from the flame. He bit his lip. He knew that the second he did this, Hankyung would disappear completely from his life and he’d be alone.
Suddenly, he felt Yesung near him. Yesung held his hand firmly, gently. He stopped trembling and together, they put the picture to the flame.
Watching it burn slowly, he felt Yesung shift slightly next to him. He turned his head and found himself staring into Yesung’s intense gaze. Intense, yet comforting.
Suddenly, Heechul realized something. As he stared into Yesung’s eyes and saw those eyes staring back, he knew. He wasn’t alone. Seeing Yesung’s lips curve into a small smile, he knew that he never would be alone.

So... I don't know if this is good.. *sigh* I always imagined that I would write YeChul as more humorous. This was kind of intense but not too bad, I hope.
