Ryeowook sat uncomfortably still in the living room. All the other members had already gone home to their families and they thought he had, too. It was Christmas Eve, after all.

Ryeowook sighed. He hadn’t been able to go home because his mother had warned him that there was some conflict at home involving his cynical grandmother and advised him to stay with one of the other members instead. Of course, Ryeowook hadn’t wanted to intrude. But he told his mother he had anyway, just so that she wouldn’t worry.

Turning on the TV, Ryeowook shivered. He got up to get a blanket from his room and then, wrapping himself in it, he sat cross-legged to watch whatever show was on. But he didn’t see the screen. It felt sort of empty without anyone around.

Ryeowook had never felt so alone before, especially not since he’d become part of Super Junior. But the other members were gone and here he was, all alone in the apartment on Christmas Eve. He was glad that he had turned on the television. It broke the silence that had filled the apartment.

Since he was alone, Ryeowook figured it was okay to cry. After all, there was no one to see. There was no one to ask him what was wrong. No one to hug him and comfort him. No one to make his tears go away. Ryeowook hugged his knees to his chest, unable to suppress the loneliness he was feeling.

Looking at the clock on the wall, Ryeowook saw that it was nearly midnight. He sniffed and stood up, deciding to go to sleep. What was the point of staying up when there was no one to stay up with him? None. Exactly.

Ryeowook turned in the general direction of his room but he hadn’t taken a step further before the front door suddenly slammed open and a voice drifted from outside, singing “Jingle Bells”. At least, that’s what Ryeowook thought it was. The words were too slurred to make out.

Cautiously, Ryeowook held a pillow in his hand, hoping to hit whoever it was on the head with a... pillow... Okay, smart move, Ryeowook. You’ll just sleep the burglar away.

Apprehensive and clutching the pillow tightly, Ryeowook walked to the hall leading to the door. He was more than a little shocked to find Heechul completely drunk and slumped against the door frame. He wasn’t surprised that Heechul was drunk, more the fact that he was there at all.

“H-hyung?” Ryeowook asked hesitantly.

Heechul looked up and, seeing Ryeowook standing there open-mouthed, held up the beer bottle in his hand and said, “Wookie! Beer?”

“Uh no thanks, hyung,” Ryeowook said, getting over the shock of seeing Heechul and quickly helped Heechul inside, closing the door behind them. As he lay Heechul gently onto the couch, he asked, “Hyung, what are you doing here? I thought you went home.”

Heechul made an odd whining noise and said drunkenly, “’Course I went home. I’m here, aren’t I?”

“I meant, to your family, hyung,” Ryeowook said, feeling a little helpless.

“What family?” Heechul demanded, still slurring his words. “You are my family!” He looked suspiciously up at Ryeowook and added, “You are, aren’t you?”

Ryeowook smiled a little at this and nodded. He wasn’t able to stifle a yawn then. He looked at Heechul and said, “I’m gonna go to sleep now, hyung. I’ll just leave you to-“ Ryeowook hesitated for a second and said, “-to whatever it is you’re gonna do. G’night!”

Ryeowook turned around to go to his room. Heechul made another whining noise and grabbed Ryeowook’s leg, making him stop in mid-step. Ryeowook looked down in confusion. Heechul muttered something under his breath, then reached up and pulled Ryeowook to him, hugging him tight.

Ryeowook was so surprised, he didn’t do anything immediately. He just lay sprawled next to Heechul in an awkward position. When he felt a sudden cramp in his leg, Ryeowook struggled to sit up but Heechul’s arms were fastened tightly around him.

“Hyung! Let me go!” Ryeowook cried out, trying to get out of Heechul’s steadfast hold. When he heard Heechul’s even breathing, he realized the older man had fallen asleep. Ryeowook sighed. Looks like he was stuck for the night. He shifted into a more comfortable position in Heechul’s arms.

After a little while, Ryeowook allowed himself a smile. He wasn’t alone anymore.
