Grr...has been a frustrating few days as I try to finish my project so I can begin revision for exams whilst dealing with the bitter fruit of my own idle stipidity. Having downloaded a game demo from piratebay I neglected to scan before opening and as a result have been laden with a very nasty virus that has so far proved harder to kill than Necron

if anyone has any advice or a plan to save the data on my external I'm all ears.

Don't just use AVG and Avast. Scan it with Ad-Aware, Spybot, and also find someone who's prepared to let you plug it into a machine that runs McAfee and one that runs Norton.

As for the hard drive: format c: is undoubtedly your friend.
