First! Thank you so much for agreeing to write me a story for one of these fandoms. By virtue of that alone, I can tell you're wonderful. I'm so excited to read whatever it is you come up with, and I'm sure I will love it with my whole entire heart.
GENERAL LIKES: I'm into all sorts of fics: character studies, slice-of-life, scenes that slot somewhere within the canon and expand upon it, future fic, road trips, tropes! -- fake dating!!!, sharing a bed, mutual pining, trapped in an elevator -- AUs (all the AUs! a good soulmate au, or depending on the fandom, a high school/college au, heist au, etc.)! I enjoy fic that delves into relationships, and I don't mind smut, but I like it to say something about the relationship and how it functions/changes. I like snappy dialogue, prose that reads like poetry, and anything that fits the tone of the fandom/character.
GENERAL DISLIKES: noncon or dubcon, major character death that's not in canon, character bashing, especially to prop up a ship (it obviously depends, but there's a fine line between Character A not liking Character B, and the story putting a character down, you know?), character death and kid fic. I like angst, but I like it to feel deserved and right, and not just for its own sake.
THE AMERICANS (TV 2013) [Elizabeth Jennings, Philip Jennings | Clark Westerfield]
I'm currently rewatching this and absolutely losing my mind over Elizabeth and Philip (I've spent an entire week yelling sexy tooth extraction!!! at anybody who deigns to listen to me). I love how nuanced and complex their relationship is. It's such a real and deep exploration of marriage, the ebb and flow of how they feel about each other, and ultimately, the loyalty and love that underpins it all. Anything exploring that would be amazing.
For these two, the canon is so rich that I would love anything that explores it. A character study about either Elizabeth or Philip - expanding on their life in the Soviet Union, their training with the KGB, the early years of their time together in the US, any moment that slots into canon, or their time in Russia when we leave them. I'm really interested in the two of them learning to live with each other, both at the start of their relationship in America, and after they leave Henry and Paige in the finale. When all they have is each other, and they've been partners for so long that they don't know how to be anything else. But their lives are so drastically different, as is the home the left years ago and have now returned to. Settling into their new normal has to be weird and difficult.
I also think there are trope -y things you could do, if you wanted: trap them in an elevator at any time in their relationship! Hurt/Comfort! Amnesia! I also think the show does a great job with the push/pull of sex between them. The perfunctory nature of it when they conceive Paige and Henry, when that changes, especially in the pilot, and how it evolves from there to be about an emotional connection - which has its ups and downs - and trust. Exploring how that changes for them over the years would be great, too.
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE RPF [Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig]
I am obsessed with these two and would be interested in absolutely anything you'd want to write about them. Talk about them on SNL: staying up ungodly amounts of time, to ungodly hours of the morning, trying to write and not getting any writing done at all, getting wasted at the after parties, mocking a host they find particularly annoying and terrible behind said host's back at dress rehearsal. Talk about them filming movies and doing press together: how they hijack interviews doing weird bits just trying to make each other laugh. Something exploring their time together on the set of The Skeleton Twins and how that changed and cemented their relationship, making it stronger or proving how strong it already was. Talk about them being best friends or falling in love -- super into affairs, super into them having an on-going and long-term affair. Talk about them happy or talk about them sad.
Again, all the AUs: high school and college as the old standby. I'd love to see them helping run a presidential campaign and falling in love on the trail. Maybe they're some kind of soulmates. Put them in a romantic comedy: When Harry Met Sally, or You've Got Mail, or Bridget Jones's Diary, or His Girl Friday, or whatever strikes your fancy!
CLOAK & DAGGER (TV 2018 [any - Tandy Bowen, Tyrone Johnson, Evita Fusilier]
I love this show so much, and I'm devastated about its cancellation. I loved how well thought-out and deliberate everything felt. The slow, careful character-building done for Tandy and Tyrone in season one and watching their relationship progress from there. I'd love something similar written for Evita. Give me more about her relationship with her Auntie, her relationship to voodoo, and how it's progressed over the years, especially now that she's sacrificed her life - her hopes and dreams and future - to marry Samedi and save Tyrone. She's so brave and good and strong, and I'd love to see her really get her due.
I'd also love to see a real friendship form between Evita and Tandy, whether Tandy and Ty come back to New Orleans, or Evita finds them elsewhere, or we ignore some canon. I'd love to see them really size each other up, from Evita resisting Tandy's attempts to steal her hope in season one and Evita's skepticism about her character, to challenging each other and learning to respect each other. To really liking each other. There's some tension and conflict to be mined from both of their relationships with Ty. Evita dated him, but they never really got off the ground, and there's something sad about that. To Tandy essentially being Tyrone's soulmate, and how that moves into a more romantic place. I wouldn't want to see petty squabbling or the two of them hating each other, but something that delves into that complication and tension would be good.
Speaking of which, something that looks into Ty and Evita's failed relationship would be really interesting. Like I said, there's something sad about all that went unexplored between the two of them, especially the loss Evita experienced marrying the Loa. A story that pays tribute to what almost was between them, the idea of fate and sacrifice, and allowing them to have more closure than the show really had time for would be great.
And, of course, Tandy and Ty. I love them. I love them! The way their relationship progressed as they learned to work together, becoming best friends, confiding in each other and trusting each other more than anyone, to something more romantic. It was the perfect set up for a nice, long, aching slow burn. I would love fic that takes them leaving town together in the finale and watches them really get together, falling in love and leaning in to that, accepting it and finding comfort in each other and the ability to be vulnerable with each other. Something starting with ideas from
here!
A different sort of soulmate AU for them would be great, give me mutual pining, or fake dating, or hurt/comfort. Ty as Persephone and Tandy as Hades!
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS [Jess Merriweather, Vince Howard]
I love all the FNL kids, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the lions. Vince and Jess are my favorites, and I would adore fic about them as individuals or together. If you wanted to explore their shared history, the bond they had and how it fell apart before the show, I would love it. I have always been interested in their backstory, but the show never delved into it, so feel free to do so! If you want to give me a glimpse into their future: maybe they're the Eric and Tami of Dillon -- or another town -- now. Jess is Eric! Vince is Tami! I would love fic about Vince and his mother throughout the years, dealing with her drug addiction and his dad's absence. I would love fic about Jess and her family, raising her brothers and helping her dad, dealing with the loss of her mother and how that affected and shaped who she became. Maybe snapshots of how her love for football developed!
FLEABAG (TV) [Fleabag, Priest]
I absolutely lost my marbles over Fleabag/Priest earlier this year, and I feel like it Changed Me. The mortifying ordeal of being known! The rewards of love! Anything about the two of them would be wonderful. I'd love to explore more of what it means for the Priest to really see Fleabag as she is, to notice when she's breaking the fourth wall and separating herself from the moment and her life. I'd love to see Fleabag have a similar ability to understand and see the Priest. I think they see a lot of themselves in each other and are able to interact without judgement. I'd love a story that affords the Priest an opportunity to really open up to Fleabag about his past and life and find healing in her/with her. There aren't preconceived notions with the two of them, just the truth, and wrapped up in all of that, they're able to love each other exactly as they are.
I'm really interested in how Fleabag makes the Priest question his faith, but as a result, he feels closer to God when he's with her. The contradiction of that is fascinating to me: what happens to his faith when they're separated? He feels God's presence less? Does bitterness or resentment grow, as he gave up love for religion. What about love as religion?
Give me a story about the two of them running in to each other after the finale. The pain and nostalgia they'd experience. Something soft and sad and still filled with so much love. What if they wind up in a koooky scenario where there's only one bed? What if that love didn't pass? How do you reconcile all of it - love and faith and religion?
As you can probably tell, I'm open to many, many possibilities, and these are just some ideas and thoughts. Feel free to write something that makes your heart sing, whether it's sparked from something here or your own brain. If you enjoy writing the story you write for me, I'm sure I will love it. Once again, thank you so much! I cannot wait to read whatever you come up with.
