Dearest best beloveds, I am in a much better mood today despite having a growly sore throat, apparently zinc makes me near invincible.

You don’t know what a bad mood I was in yesterday, do you? Duh. Silly me. I deleted that little diatribe before it was posted. And then I spent an hour or so on the phone to rosamicula cackling like witches and being itterly ( Read more... )

My mum goes to the gym and as part of it does weights every day. She's 63 on Saturday and despite 2 ops this year for arthritis is the healthiest of her friends, including younger friends, by miles.

My MIL does a vague older ladies' keep-fit class now and then and that's it for fitness. She definitely is ageing much worse than my Ma.

Good plan, Heeno!

I am currently trying to spend my 30s living like I should have done in my teens (only still no silly drugs and booze business, just education and being brave and doing STUFF), so I definitely approve.

Totally agree about weights. I've done them on and off since before tumour one and it's why I could tell them to piss right off when the NHS suggested I could claim DLA.

I tailed off for most of the last year and you know how doddery I was a few months ago. One month of pretty systematic weight work and I am much stronger again.

We were designed for weight bearing exercise. It builds muscle faster, in pre or peri-menopausal women better than anything else. Certainly better than zumba and jogging and all that bollock.

Peet - who was totally qualified and knew his shit, said that sustained walking carrying 20% of one's body weight was what was needed. The strongest people I have ever known were always squaddies - it's teh kit bag that does it.
