those women sound vile. hmmm.

i am simultaneously gutted about not seeing the destroyers, and kind of happy because thee faction make me grin like a loon.

know what you mean about the friend thing. kind of. i am incredibly rubbish about saying "let's do a thing" and then cram cram cram and then collapse and hibernate. wah.

...& I was simultaneously delighted about seeing The Destroyers (I totally loved them!) and gutted about missing Thee Faction again. February, though!

yeah, you'll be doing something pretty wrong if you miss that one!

Actually, I *may* not play that one - I think Kate is available and though we're doing the next two gigs in tandem I'm trying to persuade her to learn the new songs and take back over properly so I can step back to being occasional stand-in and enthusiastic fan. Because (a) two basses is a bit tricky (b) need to do more guitar playing / original songs etc. I've had a good run with The Nuns but time to move on a bit, y'know? but I'll definitely be there and in fact will demand they make me their guest.

Tangential to your point re friends, I felt quite guilty over the summer when I missed a lot of birthdays etc and then when I got back from "on tour" I realised (a) I hadn't seen lots of people (inc you) for ages and really needed to, er, *reinvest* in a lot of my friendships but (b) I really really needed lots of chill out time on my own. So (b) is what I did, & I think the indicator of a true connection with someone is when it doesn't really matter how much time passes between meet-ups. Shouldn't have to be hard work, eh!

And also, slightly less tangential, thanks so much for inviting me to the gig, I absolutely loved it (& you know the opening bit all moody and melodramatic made me cry), & I left sleepy & slightly drunk at just the right time to avoid the chucking-out-time tubes etc, so that was perfect.

Two trumpet players. Blow The other trumpet whilst playing the tune The other one is playing for you. AT THE SAME TIME.

eh? wha? still can't quite get it...? like you hold a trumpet and wiggle your fingers and they hold a trumpet and wiggle their fingers but you cross over at the mouthpiece?

EXACTLY THAT! two trumpets, two players, different blowing of mouthpieces/fingerwiggling = TANDEM TRUMPETS!

That episode of QI was pretty off-putting all round. Well done, Mr. Fry, I'm sure Honda are very glad that you spent ten minutes upping the profile of their shiny flagship robotics project, even if it has been going ten years already and really isn't ever going to produce humanoid home helpers. And then I nearly fell off the sofa when he asked if anyone had ever been to a job interview. It hadn't occurred to me you could have that many people in one room who hadn't. Although apparently Phil Jupitus did do something involving pensions at one point, but perhaps wisely kept his mouth shut.

It was just how cocking patronising he was about it. 'I do't know how you do it' Well, it's a good job we do or we wouldn't have the money to buy your novels or DVDs. And yes - there was practically no content in that show...
