IC:

Character name: Machi Kuragi
Fandom: Fruits Basket (or Furuba)
Timeline: Chapter 128
Age: 15

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: In addition to doing well in her academics, especially mathematics (How would she be the treasurer of the student council if she didn't?), Machi has a bit of a Debby Downer vibe, and could probably ruin any party/outing by just being her awkward self there. If that ability does not apply or count, then... Oh well. I guess she's not magical. :|
How would they use their abilities?: She could be “that guy,” but let's... not go there. haha

Appearance: Machi is rather plain looking compared to a lot of other Furuba character, but I think she's cute! She has dark brown (almost black) hair, and dark brown eyes. She's a little bit on the short side, and enjoys wearing “mature” clothing (dark colours, knee length skirts, etc). She doesn't like flashy clothing, and is one of those schoolgirls that don't pull their skirt up, and keeps it below knee length.

Background/Personality: Machi's personality does not really bode well to those who don't know her. She doesn't stand out from the crowd, and keeps herself distant from others. Yet, despite this she is was known in her school for her somewhat violent behaviour. Heck, her first appearance happened right after she trashed the student council office. For “no reason whatsoever,” she pushes neatly stacked piles of paper off desks, and tips over new boxes of unused chalk. These violent outbursts are all due to the way she was raised by her mother. When she was a child, she and her half-brother Manabe Kakeru were raised in what Manabe called a spartan environment. They were forced to compete with each other in everything they did because of a fight between their mothers over who should be their father's heir.

Her mother, like most of the oh-so-kind-loving-and-gentle parents in this series, pushed Machi to be absolutely perfect (funny really, since perfection is a subjective concept). She constantly complained, reprimanded, and even threatened Machi, who had always tried her hardest to please her, to the point where she became emotionally traumatized. Even now, she feels threatened by perfection. Whenever she sees something that she considers perfect, like a piece of unused chalk, a layer of white and untainted fresh snow, or a spotless stack of paper, she feels the urge to do something about it. Even after that matter of having one of children become the heir was resolved, Machi's mother continued to insult and belittle her, calling her boring and useless. Heck, she even decided that Machi attempted to strangle her younger brother and kicked her out of the house (this was not really the case, she was simply placing a blanket over her brother because he looked cold).

“My actions were already decided by them. I couldn't make them understand.”

Machi is very quiet, and rather humble to the point where it's sometimes blunt to Yuki and the other council members. She's never seen speaking for herself until much later in the series, and is often doing whatever she is asked to do without question. She does not feel the pressure to go with the crowd, nor does she really fall for any kind of peer pressure that she is given by the other girls in the school (e.g. She does not agree that Yuki is like a prince, and thinks that he's rather lonely). She does not seem to have any interests, or wishes, and for the most part, that's actually pretty damned close to the truth. When Yuki asks her what her favourite colour is, she gives him a strange and confused look, as if she had never been asked this in her entire life. From what I know, she's never been given a lot of choices or opportunities to choose something for herself when she grew up, so it's rather understandable that she'd be perplexed or caught up about something as simple as that.

Pushing all those little problems aside, Machi is actually really caring, and nice (and sometimes a bit stubborn too!). When she was given a very small gift (a momiji leaf) from Yuki, something of no particular value, she accepted it looking rather surprised, and made it into a bookmark. After being told by (super clueless) Yuki that he wanted some fertilizer, she goes through a lot just to get some for him. At one point she used a chair to break open a door to save him, even though no one else knew that he was in trouble.

It's apparent that Machi becomes more outspoken, and expressive as the series goes on. Yuki is the cause of Machi's little changes. Because he pays attention to her, and because he goes beyond what most people do and treats her like a friend, she slowly falls in love with him.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Uhh, now I have. Characters can earn money by doing the three following things: taking on jobs, creating jobs, or accidentally taking jobs. They can use the Guide to communicate to others through the Flaming Ferret plugin.

1st person sample:
[ The screen flicks on to show a girl staring blankly right at you. Yes, you. She doesn't seem to really care that she managed to turn on her newly acquired communicator, or that she has video mode on. ]

...

[ Her brows knit together as the sounds of various buttons being pressed are made in a distance-- and finally, the feed switches to something less intimate; for she's figured out how to access the TEXT mode, a more convenient mode for the less Japanese-savvy. ]

Where am I?

3rd person sample:
It was a typical weekend for Machi, or it at least would have been if she hadn't been roped into a social outing with the rest of her student council members the day before. She lay down on her unmade bed and stared blankly at the clean white ceiling as she waited for her laundry to be done. Yesterday was... strange. She'd never been pulled into such a situation, nor did she ever let herself be. It frankly made her feel that she was caught off-guard, despite being the opposite.

She wondered why the Student President kept persisting on her joining them even when she straightly told him that she didn't want to. She wondered why he even bothered doing that for someone like her. She knew that she wasn't special in any way. She wasn't as outgoing like Manabe, nor was she as pretty (... and standoffish) as Kimi. So... Why her?

Rolling off onto her side, Machi reached out and groped for her cellphone to check the time. Laundry was almost ready. She pushed herself off of her bed and trudged through the so-called pigsty that was her floor to retrieve her freshly washed clothes.

Rrr... Rrr... Rrr

She stopped before the door and turned toward the source of the noise. Her phone. It was probably somewhere in her bedroom. The call was probably from her mother. She was pretty sure that it was. No one else would have bothered to call her, unless it was some sort of emergency. She turned back to face the door and reached out for the doorknob. 'I'll... call her back afterwards,' she thought to herself as she opened the door and stepped out.

"Ugh... Are you going to really keep those clothes like that, young lady? What would your parents say about you when they see your clothes like this?"

Machi did not bother acknowledging the nagging woman beside her as she took her clothes out and placed them messily on top of the clothes dryer. She didn't want to fold her clothes neatly, nor did she want to stack them up, or organize them in any way. The thought of it made her stomach churn. Just like how everything around her in the laundry room did. Why was everything so white? So... clean? It made her feel like she was suffocating. All of it... It was just to much. Roughly, she pulled the rest her clothes out of the dryer, grabbed the rest of her clothes in her arms. Before anyone could let out another word, she walked quickly out of the laundry room.

When she arrived back to her apartment, she tossed her freshly laundered clothes onto the floor and began looking around for her phone. Ah... There it was, underneath her math textbook. Without even bothering to check who had previously called her, she pressed the TALK button and started pressing in her mother's phone number. She waited patiently for it to start connecting her, but unsurprisingly enough, it was busy. All of them, mother, father, and her little brother, must have gone out together again.

"..."

Without a word, she turned it off and dropped the phone onto the floor. There was nothing else to do, now that her laundry was done. “Ah...” she said suddenly when she laid her eyes onto the red bookmark that she'd just recently made. “I still need to thank him for... yesterday...”

She felt something fluttering somewhere inside of her as she thought of it. Was it too late to thank him? What if he thought she was... weird? Frowning, she picked up the bookmark and placed it gently on top of her bookshelf. Perhaps it was better if she did during school tomorrow.

“Yeah. I'll... tell him tomorrow.”

Questions?: Nope.
Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: ^__^
