Dear Log,

As of late, I have been reading a few Muggle books recommended by Penelope Clearwater (a friend of mine at the Ministry). Most notable was War and Peace, which is filled with candid and vivid portrayals of Muggles and their ambitions. By the end of this novella, I came to understand that the "peace" Tolstoy utilises in the title is simply an interior quality.

I have also been perusing the U.S. State Papers, the Federalist Papers, and a bit of Mill. I have to make a mental note to read "The Debate on the Constitution" (Library of America). The Federalist Papers are a forthright argument in favour of the innovative U.S. Muggle Constitution. Mill does an adequate job at critiquing those who criticise individualism. I cannot hold that individualism is the be-all end-all answer to everything. However, all things considered, a bit of individualism in our society would be welcome!

After reading a few medical texts, I felt moved to read Harvey on circulation of the blood. It was fascinating to realise that until Harvey, the movement of the blood was considered to be analogous to the coming-and-going of the waters at sea, rather than a flowing circulation.

However, as I have said before, nothing compares to goblin-rebellion novels.

Things are as busy as always at the Ministry; in fact, I really don't have time to be writing in this log at the moment. At the same time, I feel I need to set an example, both for my brothers and the other workers at the Ministry.

Next Friday I have scheduled a dinner meeting with a co-worker as well as our parents. I fear that this may go disastrously. My father does not consider decorum to be a friend of his, and I fear this will shine badly upon me. I only hope that my associate's parents will take into consideration the fact that I am not, by any means, following in my father's footsteps.

As for today, I had scheduled a lunch meeting with Minister Fudge, but, er, it appears I will be eating alone. One cannot really expect the Minister of Magic to have time for lunch appointments daily, and I have certainly been too busy for several of his invitations as well.
