Sometime around 1380, Chaucer wrote a poem called The Parliament of Fowls, in which various birds gather together on Valentine's Day to choose their mates. This might have been the first time Valentine's Day was associated with love

It's not so much that I'm bitter about being single on Valentine's day so much as I'm bitter at certain couples flaunting their shallow relationships everywhere I turn on Valentine's day. Thanks for the useful info about Chauser though!
