Happy New Year!

This year, the Scientist have decreed that we get an extra second. Or the Cosmic Time Scale will get out of wack, or something. In order to extend time on old Big Ben, they had to have someone physically hold the seconds hand back for one second. Otherwise, I guess, Big Ben would have been off by one second for the rest of the year. Did they show this in the TV program?

Apparently the last time this happened was in 2005. I wish I had been more aware that I got an extra second in 2005! Think off all the things you can plan for a whole extra second!

My dad told me about the extra second. It's definitely an interesting phenomenon, and just goes to show how arbitrary our divisions of time are.

I'm with you on the Academy of Sciences. In so many ways it seemed a let down. But the rainforest was incredible. And you're definitely spot on on the albino alligator. Although I do kind of miss the old, much bigger swamp. Other than that, I'm glad you're enjoying seeing your family. And truly, we must arrange time to visit at some point once we have both made the return to Portland.
