[He raises an eyebrow at a certain word that stands out more than others in the invitation - the word required. Require: to make necessary, to order or enjoin to do something, to call for or exact as obligatory, to demand. Another word catches his attention - the word date. A Date: a person with whom one has a social appointment or engagement.

Now, these two words are harmless, for the most part. A person Lelouch's age is familiar with having obligations and what it means to be another person's date for the evening. In fact, he has had experience with both.

However, the fact that Franziska von Karma was requiring that all personnel bring dates to the Police Banquet and Award Ceremony did not sit well with Lelouch. He had no intention of bringing anybody to this banquet, not even C.C. This constituted as business and, therefore, was to remain separate from any and all personal matters.]

Required?

[Lelouch's irritation is not that obvious, though his reply a bit more terse than usual.]

Yes. [Franziska is getting completely irritated with these ridiculous replies. Was her instructions not specific enough??]

If you wish to attend, then you shall bring along a date. The rules have not changed.

[Lelouch frowns a bit at her response, having forgotten how insufferable the woman was. He knows that having a civil discussion with her is not an option and arguing would get him nowhere. He will just have to grin and bear it... And call Milly or Kallen.

But that call will be a last resort.

Desperate, he tries to reason with Franziska.]

Prosecutor, I see no reason why we should be required to bring a date to a government function. What purpose would that serve?

It would do you good to remember your place, boy. [lol she is the same age]

I am your superior and it does not matter to you what purpose this function serves. You are only to obey the rules!

Boy? Boy?

[He pauses, slightly taken aback by her response. This response should come as no surprise to Lelouch, though, considering the amount of time he has spent around the young prosecutor due to his work with Edgeworth... Perhaps it was the way she said boy or the way she barked that she was his superior - something did not sit well with the young emperor and he couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer.]

Franziska von Karma, you will address me by my name or my title and only by name or my title.

[A beat]

You're not my superior and you never were my superior, Franziska. You're my peer, my equal. I may be working for the Chief Prosecutor, doing what I'm instructed to do when I'm at my desk in the courthouse... But don't think that, outside of those doors, I am going to let somebody like you talk to me like that.

I've never been one to follow rules and I have every right to question, and even challenge, these ridiculous rules of yours.

[For the very briefest of moments, the young Franziska von Karma is completely taken back.

It's been quite some time since anyone has gotten a moment of silence from this woman.]

[But then there's the usual sound of her whip cracking wickedly in the air.]

There's that pompous attitude of yours. You should learn to drop that habit and learn your place, Lelouch vi Britannia. Or that precious title of yours will not be yours to hold onto for much longer.

[Despite the fact you are Miles Edgeworth's dear assistant, Franziska is still technically Lelouch's superior and can easily dismiss him from the job permanently. Especially given her firm hold over her older brother, Miles. That is, unless, you know, the teenager can somehow brainwash her into ignoring him completely.

But yeah right, like that could actually happen.]

You are no equal of mine and never shall be. I am Franziska von Karma, the prosecutorial prodigy, the daughter of the greatest prosecutor to ever step into a courtroom. You will not forget it or speak to me with such a tone again or I shall see you pack your things without hesitation.

[A huff, she's going to attempt to calm herself.] These rules have been in place since the beginning of this event. It is tradition. [lol] Who are you to argue against Somarium tradition? ( ... )

Pompous...

[Not at all surprised by her response, Lelouch remains silent for a few minutes before turning his attention back to the Dreamberry in his hand. He had worn a mask during every conversation between himself and this woman thus far, as such a thing is necessary from time to time... But not today. Today, Franziska von Karma finally gets to see a part of Lelouch many in Somarium may never see.

Was her use of the whip necessary? What was she trying to accomplish cracking it when we are on opposite sides of the city from each other? Did she think that a whip would intimidate me? Ha! A whip pales in comparison to the things I've stood against.

He smiles.]

Your father was the greatest prosecutor to ever step into a courtroom? [His smile widens a bit.] I had no idea that you came from such an esteemed lineage, Franziska. A prosecutorial prodigy with such a rich family history... We truly aren't equals, are we?

[A beat]

Ah, I haven't properly introduced myself, have I?

[The expression on his face changes slightly.] ( ... )

[Without hesitation, and with the smile still on his face, he continues.]

I look forward to seeing you at the Police Banquet, Prosecutor.

[Franziska is honestly not at all impressed.

Even if Lelouch was an emperor or a king or even a god back home, though the woman highly doubts he was anything more than a bratty child, he was a mere prosecutor's assistant here in his new life. Whatever status at home he had held had absolutely no sway or power in Somarium, unlike her own respected name.

This foolish boy truly amounted to dirt under her heel.

She hangs up, cutting the connection, because she truly has more than enough to deal with at the present moment.

She will, however, bring up his insubordination up to Miles though. That's for certain.]
