But this came from the muse after tolkien100 put "Summer thunderstorms" as the prompt
The August thunderstorm caught the hobbits off-guard; each was deep in thought.
Merry thought about Rohan and King Theoden, wondering wistfully when he would return again.
Pippin was eager to be homeward bound after almost a year of being away.
Sam looked anxiously at his master who looked still uneasy but what for, he could only guess.
And Frodo wondered about Bilbo but mostly about the Shire in which his heart lies.
There was trouble as they ran into Saruman who looked sour and vengeful. Frodo wondered about his words.
Raindrops did not abate as they turned north towards Rivendell.
i'm a rusty drabbler. :P
Version 2
The humidity brought on dampness; soon rain was imminent. Thunder pounded and lightning zig zagged in front of them. Rain was unceasing, dampening spirits of a smooth homecoming.
The hobbits welcomed the change, for the stifling heat made them quite uncomfortable as they kept riding north towards Rivendell and home.
But the rain did not bring solace especially with the surprising encounter with Saruman.
The dampness of the air after the pouring rain only gave slight comfort. It felt suffocating.
Frodo’s heartbeat matched the constant pitter-patter of the rain. The uneasiness that Saruman’s words spoke kept gnawing at his conscience.
After the funeral, heavy rain kept pouring in Rohan. It seemed that the sky too, was mourning the loss of King Theoden.
Eowyn kept thinking about the good times with her uncle and all the caring ways in which Theoden had raised her and Eomer.
“I would have you smile again not grieve for those whose time had come.”**
She remembered his words, but she could not feel solace. Tears kept pouring from her eyes. Theoden was like a father to her.
Then, she felt someone by her side. It was Faramir. His eyes were gentle, understanding. All he did was hold her at the moment.
And she was grateful for that sweet embrace.

(and last one is tribute for Theoden (Bernard Hill) for his passing this past May. (And i'm still an unabashed Faramir/Eowyn fan apparently ) :P
