I figured I'd write up a little recap of the show I went to, since I generally do stuff like that.
So Nadia and I got there about 2 hours before doors. It was actually ridiculously simple to get to the venue. This was the first time I was going to a show outside NYC without a car, so I was kind of nervous, understandably, since you know, no public transport. But it was good. We took the Link bus from the New Paltz campus into Poughkeepsie, to the train station. I had google mapped the venue and the train station and traced the route we had to take. We just had to walk straight down main street for like, less than a mile and then we were there.
We found the venue with some difficulty, but we did find it. There was actually a pretty sizeable line of kids there already, which was weird, but I understood why once we got inside. The venue had sent out an email that the door time was changed to 6, but they started letting us in just after five anyway, which was good.
Like, I said, I understood why everyone got there so early once we got in. The Chance is a strange venue; there's a very small pit area, and to get there you have to go down a few stairs. Then there's a balcony-type thing that's a couple feet above the pit, and then there's the sound booth, then there's another higher balcony. Basically you have no hope of getting to the front unless you get there early enough so that you can squeeze into the pit. By the time we got in there, the pit was full so we chilled on the first balcony. It was actually a really good, comfortable spot. I could see really well. the only problem was that the girl in front of me kept flicking her hair, and it was giving me fucking whiplash trying to get out of the way haha.
The first band was Versa Emerge, and they sucked. I mean, they pissed me off a little less than I expected them too, but still. Suckage. They had a female singer, which is a thing for me. If she's not Amanda Palmer or Greta Salpeter, she automatically pisses me off. Well. Not really because I'm sure there are chicks out there who can pull it off besides those two, but. This girl wasn't one of them. I HAVE seen worse though. She wasn't as bad as Hayley Williams. Whatever, this is just an anger issue for me, and I'm not going to get into that now because that's a whole other rant.
Next was There for Tomorrow and they ALSO sucked. All the songs sounded the same and I was like "BLAH BLAH WHINE WHINE YOU SUCK LEAVE." The guys in both bands all had the same hair... they like, purposely swept it forward so it looked like wind was blowing it from behind. I actually saw Marshall had a similar thing going on, but I mostly forgave him because IL Marshall <3
So yeah, then The Cab. They were awesome as usual. They're so good on stage. Like, even if you don't like them, you realize you're witnessing people with talent. Cash kept doing this ridiculous thing where he'd drop his bass like it was burning him, and I was for real in hysterics.
Here's my attempt at recalling the set list:
That '70's Song
Risky Business
I'll Run
One of THOSE Nights
Bounce
And OMFG I swear they played six but I can't remember for my life which one was the other. As it is, I had no idea which song the "hide they key" one was, and I always forget which one is "That 70's Song." I'm terrible with their titles.
Anyway, Singer's mic broke during the first song, so he had to take Ian's, and the resulting attempt at background vocals was extremely gay. Ian kept having to run across the stage to sing into Marshall's mic, at the same time Marshall was, and it was adorable. Also, Singer kept manhandling Ian to get him to sing into HIS mic, and aahhhahaha I was laughing so hard. Also, I think after seeing this show I might love Ian a whole lot, because IDK, he's just really awesome.
We decided to leave after the Cab since we didn't like We The Kings at all and we didn't know The Main. Plus, Singer said they'd be by the merch booth if we wanted to say hi, and we did. So we headed over, and a minute later Singer came out. I told him it was an awesome show and he signed my ticket stub, and Nadia got him to sign the book she was reading. Yaaay. The signed ticket is on my cork board now. :D
Then we walked back to the train station, and we managed to get a taxi without much of an issue. It only cost us $15 each including tip, so that was good. AND, I was back on campus by 8:30! So all in all, I consider it a success.
Oh, and this is totally off topic, but MCR FANS, remember like, last year when
rhvdohsetcd was posting riddles for us on
chemicalromance , and we had to figure shit out and put in usernames and passwords and shit? WELL, IDK if you knew this, but there's this crazy internet riddle game called Not Pron, and it's pretty much EXACTLY like that. It's a lot of fun, but it's REALLY INSANELY HARD, and it WILL eat your brain. I don't recommend starting it unless you have several hours to kill (in which you will definitely not finish the whole thing), and I would feel guilty linking you to it, so I'm just going to tell you to google it if you want to play. It's REALLY HARD. And it will eat your brain. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Oh also, on the topic of internet games that are addictive, try
Chain of Fire. It's so morbidly hilarious.
