I started playing Final Fantasy VI again, and on a whim I started naming the characters after Joss Whedon characters. Then I realized that by naming them on an ad hoc basis I was getting the mapping all wrong, so I started over and decided to come up with the names in advance. These are my choices; what would you choose?
- Terra = Dawn. Both are sort of half-human, half-magical. Neither can remember their (true) past, and both are confused about their place in the world. I also considered Fred, but Fred and Illyria are distinct characters, whereas Terra is still Terra when she morphs.
- Locke = Simon. Locke rescued Celes, and Simon rescued River. Also, I think Simon would make a good treasure hunter.
- Edgar = Angel. Both are leaders. I couldn't come up with anything better than that.
- Sabin = Spike. This only really appeals to me as long as Edgar = Angel. I also considered Jayn.
- Shadow = Early. As in Jubal Early, the bounty hunter from the Firefly episode Objects in Space.
- Celes = River. The Empire played with Celes' head and gave her magical powers. The Alliance played with River's head and gave her psychic powers.
- Cyan = Book. I'm not exactly sure why, but Cyan and Shepherd Book seem very similar to me.
- Gau = Connor. Duh.
- Setzer = Mal. He gambles, he womanizes, and he owns a flying ship.
- Strago = Giles. Both are old men steeped in mystical lore. Also, Strago's custodial relationship to Relm kind of reminiscent of Giles and Willow.
- Relm = Willow. Relm is natively the strongest magic user in the game, and they both have cutesy personalities.
- Mog = Lorne. Mog dances, Lorne sings. Neither is human.
- Umaro = Oz. During a full moon, Oz is an uncontrollable beast like Umaro.
- Gogo = WoPang. Wo-Pang was the mystic who extracted Angel's soul in the season 4 episode Awakening. Gogo is hard to classify, but that's who he/she reminds me of.
