The Big Read says that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed (I have to say, this list is a lil arbitrary. Da Vinci Code cracking the Top 100? C'mon...). Anyhoodle

Yeah, I really really wanted to get through AK, but when a book is that big of a struggle to just get through (and not enjoy), even my pride's not big enough to keep going.
And my biggest complaint with LoP was how much (I felt) the book paled in comparison to all its hype. Yes, it was a clever, pleasant read, but not nearly the titan it had been made out to be.

I'm about to get really dorky on your ass...
When I finished AK, I was so OMFG WTF about the whole thing that I actually went and looked at the Cliffs Notes at the library, just to make sure I GOT IT... I think I was more intense about finishing it than I was interested in the story. I will say, though, that once I was told exactly what I was supposed to think... I liked it. I'm still glad I read it, though. Bragging rights and all that ;-)
I wanted to like Anna Karenina SO MUCH, but I just got so bogged down in the sheer displeasure of reading it. And as for WH, I really love Jane Eyre, so I thought it would be up my alley. I finished that fucker through sheer force of will, actively wishing bad things on all the characters.
That was the reason I struck through Life of Pi, because of the sheer UNDERWHELMING nature of the book. I really wouldn't have hated it based on its own merits, but after everyone telling me ZOMG, I HAD to read this book!, I really fucking did.
I think it's required reading in the Peace Corps. It was ok, I guess. But ultimately a let-down. I kept waiting for it to get really bone-shatteringly awesome. Never happened.

I'm sorry Anna Karenina didn't go down smoothly for you. While I did like it, I'll admit it wasn't the most fun I've ever had reading a book.
One day you'll have to tell me your thoughts on Life of Pi (why you didn't like it)... I'm very curious.
My list is here
Thanks for this. It was a fun start to my Saturday! :-)

I love you forever for striking through Wuthering Heights and Anna Karenina, as all people should.

I didn't cut. Because I don't care, apparently.
