Raising the stones...a character in the book was Stenta Thillion...a politicized artist who was from a slave culture. The muslim extremist equivalents assassinated her...and ignited a cultural backlash that was finally the end of tolerance for their behaviour as their rights to maintain their culture.

I am sorry. I was sad but not surprised. And part of what made me sad was how UNsurprised I was.

I think you're right. This is the dark age of Islam. Hopefully the faithful can repudiate the theology of hate and come out on the other side.

I had to leave the Catholic church when it became obvious how much they despised women. It is never easy to feel that the church you were raised in finds you repugnant because of your DNA.

Musharraf is an ass...but it iin no way detracts from the need for muslims to unite internally against both fascism and extremist religion. that way the jackass goes out with the bathwater.

Re: pervez : responsible? blessure February 28 2008, 04:59:02 UTC
i do not find it at all surprising that the u.s. decided to back the pakistani government's assessment regarding the responsible party (for her death)- considering that pervez is bush's puppet, the u.s is willing to back up his claims to keep him in "our" good graces. do i think that he pervez had something to do with her death? absolutely. do i think that our govt. will acknowledge that? hell no. using "al qaeda" as a scape goat works well with our own regime's agenda.

Terribly sorry to hear about this. I've been following her return to Pakistan for a little while and was beginning to wonder when I would hear about her again. And, now, this. I'm terribly sorry this has happened, and can't say I would have been as lucid or insightful as you were in discussing this.
