Happy December 13th, all. Twelve days until Christmas! Is it now that I start singing about hens and partridges and milking maids, or is that the twelve days /after/ Christmas?

Oh hey, speaking of Christmas... commanderd wrote a positively brilliant Chav Christmas Story the other day, that I feel the need to share. It had me snickering at work all day ( Read more... )

Not all of California. Just perhaps half or so. :-p Our government and judicial system, however, yes.

Well, the government and judicial system sucks pretty much all over. Though, I have to say that I've been fairly impressed by Nebraska so far. Gogo Lincoln's public smoking ban (at least in resturaunts and businesses) and ruling Dubyah's little rules about abortion unconsitutional. Among other things. (Now I just need a ruling declaring sirens cruel and unusual punishment and all will be well. Not expecting that one any time soon, though.)

Over all, I'd say the US government and judicial system needs some serious restructuring, but I'm not the person to do so or even to make suggestions about where to begin. It just seems that what we need from the system and what it's delivering are two very, very different things. I need to read more law. =)

We have the no-smoking rules here (statewide in this case) as well -- in fact, it had never even crossed my mind that anywhere would be different until I went back East to the DC area. Completely floored me to see people smoking indoors, near doorways, in restaurants... It really made me appreciate the bans in places like where we live, because my asthmatic smoke allergy is severe enough that it means I can't even sit next to somebody that smoked one cigarette a few hours earlier without having my asthma start reacting. I ended up spending the full two weeks each time I was there taking prednisone so I could go out of the apartment without landing in the hospital or something. Scary!

Even worse, one friend of mine, anonoymah in the Indiana/Ohio region, started coughing or something near a complete stranger that was smoking as she walked by -- he actually told her off and *hit* her for it. She was all meek and forgiving for his assault... I would have decked the asshat to teach him not to mess with people! (I can be a *little* aggressive ( ... )

Wow. I'm glad my asthma isn't quite that bad, though my chest was threatening to lock up on me today with some of the smokers coming through drive-through. And yes, I'm inclined to agree with you on the matter of decking the asshat. Sadly, that's one situation where I would have played the "girl" card, claimed self defense, and kicked his arse. And then pressed charges for assault and sued him for duress or something. I don't know if I could legally do all of that, but I would have tried!

(Random aside: video games didn't make me this violent. Living in a culture of asshattery has.)
