An eventful evening

Jan 10, 2006 20:46

I finally decided to call my mother back when she left a message on our answering machine threatening to start contacting people here if she didn't hear from me. People being Jeff and Ingrid, I assume, since they're the only people she has contact infos for here that know me. If there's one thing I absolutely do not want, it's my crazy mother ( Read more... )

For some reason it always makes me really happy when I become aware of people deciding to Be Who They Are (TM) rather than someone someone else wants them to be. So, it is definitely a good thing if you are becoming more comfortable with yourself.

Personally, when it comes to gender-oriented stuff, I am a bit confused by the general social edict that states a person must be one or the other -- male or female, not bits of both, or neither, or one on one day and one another day. I don't see why so many people care deeply about what gender, if any, others consider themselves. As my friend tanisnikana put it, "Why do people care so much about genitalia they will never even see?" There is no conceivable reason a person's nether bits or chromosomes should in any way have to influence what activities, jobs, clothing, etc. that person chooses ( ... )

Hehe. It's quite okay. And I'm inclined to agree with you on the gender issue, really. In the long run it doesn't matter what's between someone's legs. I tend not to think of people in terms of whether they're male or female...I'm more likely to think of them as "interesting," "not interesting," or "painfully stupid." Gender's just another spectrum to me, with people scattered all along it. Some of us are farther towards the male, some towards the female, and some are parked quite happily in between. What really matters is being comfortable with where you are on that spectrum. Just like with everything else ( ... )

Hehe. I prefer TEH-WILL.

Like my dad. Only he would have thrown a royal fit if anyone had called him "Will," let alone "Teh Will." *snicker*

Hi Will. It's Mutt. First off, I want to let you know I don't regularly read your journal; I'm not following you round or anything. It was your10th of Jan entry that made me impulsively want to comment -- gender issues are close to my heart, of course, as you know.

I just wanted to wish you LOADS of luck and courage for the road ahead and hope it's as easy for you as these things ever can be. Take care of yourself.

omghi Mutt! *waves* I get comments sent to my inbox, mostly because of my bad habit of forgetting to check Mr.Journal for a while. That you would be following me around hadn't occurred to me. Honestly, if you had been I would've heard from you before now. *eg*

Thanks for the well-wishing. I appreciate it.

Behave. And tell the squirrels I said hi, if you still see any of 'em.
