So, New York.

Is this, as I keep reading in various places, the honest-to-God turning of the tide in the US? Earlier this year, I linked to a New York Times article which states that Gay Marriage Opponents are Now in the Minority. Two months later, New York has legalized same-sex marriage. New York is big. People all over the world watch New York.

I think that it's also important that this was through the legislature. Yes, there was some ridiculousness about religion, and yes, this does prove somewhat how screwed up Albany is, but overall it is a good thing.

And the monetary threat will, I think, be enough to stop it from being overturned, as well as Cuomo's high approval rating.

Last night I was in Chelsea on 8th avenue, which is historically a LGBT-oriented neighborhood and less than a mile away from the Stonewall Inn. We went outside and there was this amazing sense of we did it in the air. Considering that this was passed with a Republican majority, I really hope it will continue.

Yay for New York!!!

I hope the tide is turning, but I know that my state would be pretty far down on the list to accept it despite having a relatively large gay population. :(
