Recipe Help?

I'm supposed to come up with a couple of Indian cuisine specials by Tuesday and I know next to nothing about Indian cooking. One of the pub's owners requested gobi Manchurian -- battered cauliflower with "spicy Manchurian sauce" -- which sounds doable. I think I'll serve that as an appetizer, so now I need a soup and an entree. The entree should be ( Read more... )

Okay! For soup, there's a really good cumin seed and pepper soup my mom and I made-- it's light and we served it over rice, but it could go either way. The Indian name for it is jeera rasam. This isn't the recipe I used, but it looks similar: http://www.iyercooks.com/2009/01/cumin-rasam-jeera-rasam.html

For the entree, you could either do a curry or an entree? I personally like curries more in the winter, but if you don't want to do a curry you could made a biryani? I know there's both vegetable versions and chicken versions, and the wikipedia article is really long and detailed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biryani

I have my own recipes for a vegetarian biryani, that soup, and a spicy lentil soup if you'd like as well.

SWEET! Thank you so much! I'll look into it in more detail tomorrow, but that gives me a great starting place. :)

I don't know much about soup, but a curry for an entree sounds great. Something like Chicken Korma or the like. I don't know what kind of crowd this is for, but chicken korma tends to be good for Indian-lovers and non-Indian-lovers since often the curry isn't too hot.

But that may also be a bias there since it's my favourite. :B

I've always enjoyed italian dishes that focused on mushrooms as the 'meat'. Not only do they turn out delicious, but they're veggie. *thumbs up*

Heee! I'm looking for Indian, not Italian. I make a mean red pepper basil pomodoro sauce and mushroom-bean-vegetable "meatballs," though.

I totally misread that. *rolls eyes*

I was a little surprised you didn't know more Italian cuisine, so, really, my world makes WAY more sense now. XD
